Coleen Rooney softens blow of Wayne’s sacking as she finally cashes in huge Wagatha cheque from Becky Vardy

WAG Coleen Rooney could soon be the main breadwinner – after her husband Wayne was sacked as manager of Birmingham City yesterday.

The mother-of-four is expected to start exploring new opportunities following the success of her television documentary Wagatha Christie.

Coleen, 37, also collected £800,000 from her High Court rival Rebekah Vardy after she extended her fellow Wag a November 2022 court costs deadline.

Meanwhile, Wayne, 38, was sacked after less than three months in charge at Championship side Birmingham and is now expected to take a break from football.

A source said: “Coleen and Wayne were in no rush for Wagatha Christie’s money, but now that Wayne has lost his job, it will come in handy.

“Coleen received the payment from Becky after she extended her deadline to give her more time to raise the money. Coleen is the breadwinner for the family at the moment and the money from Wagatha will certainly see them through for a while.”

Author and TV personality Coleen revealed she wanted to “chart what’s next” following the success of The Real Wagatha Story on Disney+, which detailed her feud with former friend Rebekah, 41.

In an interview, she said: “Children have always been my priority, always will be, but I would like to see what’s out there for me.”

“First, we’ll get through Christmas, it’s a big family thing — everything I do is a family thing. Then I’ll sit down with my management and plan what’s next.

“But I will wait. I like to take my time; I like to organize and be prepared.”

Her husband left Washington DC United last summer before returning to the UK.

Wayne took over at St Andrew’s in October after John Eustace was sacked when Birmingham were sixth.

But they have now slipped to 20th place after just two wins in 15 games, with nine defeats.

He was sacked after a 3-0 New Year’s Day win at Leeds, where Birmingham fans chanted: “Wayne Rooney, get out of our club.”

Sources revealed he never settled at the Midlands club in what was described as a “toxic” atmosphere.

One said: “Wayne was never happy there and was never given a chance. The players and fans didn’t take to him and seemed to resent the fact that he was there, especially as he replaced a local guy in John Eustace.

“In his first home game, when they were beaten by Hull in October, the crowd turned on him and chanted that they didn’t want him there. He was toxic then and didn’t really improve until the bitter end.”

The England and Manchester United legend said “it will take me some time to get over this setback” but promised he would eventually return to management.

Another source added: “Coleen will be devastated as will Wayne as she was the driving force behind their return to the UK.

“They and their children have indeed settled into their house in Cheshire and she wants to stay there.

“They will not accept another move abroad.

“But word in football circles is that Wayne will not want to be out for long, despite what he has said. People are linking him with a potential move to Saudi Arabia – which would make sense financially – or even Salford City in League Two.

“The manager’s job there is vacant and his old Manchester United team-mate Gary Neville is in charge.”
