Colin Farrell is making history!
On Sunday, January 5, the actor, 48, looked to become the third actor to win a Golden Globe for playing the villainous Batman, alongside Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix, following his historic win at the 2025 ceremony.
While speaking with reporters after winning Best Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for his role as the titular Gotham gangster on the HBO series Penguinhe called Ledger and Phoenix, 50, “extraordinary talents.”

Ledger, who died aged 28 in January 2008, posthumously won Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the Joker in The dark knight. Phoenix later won Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his portrayal of the same role in 2019. Joker.
“The dark knight was outstanding and will live on for generations to come,” Farrell said of Christopher Nolan’s take on the Batman franchise, adding, “And what Joaquin did in Joker was an example of all awards that [he] won.”
The actor also said it’s a “nice” feeling to have his name “in the same sentence as those performances”, although he still approaches “everything” from a “fan” perspective. “I don’t feel like I’m part of that pantheon,” Sugar said the star.

While accepting his third Golden Globe, Farrell joked about the massive physical transformation required to portray Oswald “Oz” Cobb – a role he first landed in the Matt Reeves film Batman. “There’s no one to thank for this. I did it all by myself,” the actor said jokingly when he took the stage. “Just a raw away performance.”
He went on to thank makeup artist Michael Marino, who designed Penguin’s look, as well as his “extraordinary” team. All it took was three hours in the morning in the chair, Farrell explained. “I drank black coffee, listened to 80s music and became a canvas for the brilliance of that crew.”

“I guess it’s a prosthetic for here,” he teased.
In September 2024, Farrell opened up to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview about the transformation, saying, “I had a bodysuit on, so I was basically covered from wrist to ankle. The only thing that was me was my hands and feet.”
He praised Marino at the time, adding, “If it wasn’t for Mike’s design, I’m telling you now, if it was just me with a fucking cigarette and a top hat and a little limp and an umbrella that was a machine gun, we wouldn’t have an HBO show.”
