Colin Farrell Returns as The Penguin in Eerie First Look at The Batman Villain’s Spinoff — Watch!

One of Gotham’s most ruthless villains gets his time to shine.

Max released the debut teaser trailer for the upcoming series on Friday Penguinin which Colin Farrell reprises his role as Gotham City’s titular villain from the 2022 film. Batman. The clip not only reveals that the show is an executive producer Batman directed by Matt Reeves, is set to premiere this fall, but promises to be an exciting gangster story.

Farrell, 47, appears in the clip and is completely unrecognizable as he reprises his role as a violent mobster whose face is scarred and topped like a widow’s bird.

The teaser shows the villain, who famously fights Batman in the DC comics, thinking about the crime boss who has appeared in his neighborhood and how he would like to leave a similar legacy.

“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, a real old-school guy: Rex Calabrese,” says the character, whose real name is Oz Cobb, while talking to someone off-screen. “He was a big deal. He helped people. If he saw you on the street, he’d call you out. When I was 14 or something, he had a heart attack and died, still holding his cigar.”

As footage of the Penguin looking over Gotham and committing crimes is shown, he continues, “In my neighborhood they’re having a parade in his honor. A fucking parade. And it wasn’t fancy, but it was a gesture. It’s a show of love for what he meant. Can you imagine being remembered like that?”

With a chilling tone and plenty of footage of Bruce Wayne burning and attacking his enemies, it looks like fans are in for a dark series that explores the criminal underworld and the Penguin’s rise to power.

The teaser also offers a brief first look at some of Farrell’s cast, including Cristino Milioti and Rhenzy Feliz. The three star alongside Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen.

According to a press release, the eight-episode series is set to debut this fall and is “ongoing.” Batman the epic crime saga that director Matt Reeves began with the global hit Warner Bros. Pictures Batman.”

The series was ordered straight to series in March 2022, almost immediately after the Robert Pattinson-led superhero film hit theaters.

The film was a box office success, earning $128 million in the US in its debut weekend. At the time, it was among the biggest films to open after the COVID-19 pandemic, second only to 2021. Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While details are scarce about the upcoming spinoff, the Oscar-nominated actor has openly said he’s excited to see his character from Batman in an interview from January 2023 Diversity.

“The only thing I had an inkling of was that I didn’t get to explore the character nearly as much as I wanted to,” Farrell said of the time on the 2022 film. Penguin is not the only project after Reeves’ Bruce Wayne film. Meanwhile, the director (57) confirmed that they are working on a sequel in which Pattinson (37) will star again.
