Comedian Jeff Dye Says He’s 36 Days Sober After DUI Arrest: ‘I Was a Very High-Functioning Alcoholic’

Jeff Dye has opened up about his drug bust on October 8, sharing that he is now sober.

“I’m an alcoholic,” Dye said on an episode of Marco DelVecchio’s podcast.Smoochie Town,’ adding, “I’m now 36 days sober.”

Before he chose sobriety, “I used to drink every night,” he said, “But just for fun … I was a high-functioning alcoholic … for about 20 years.”

He said most nights he would start watching sports at a bar, then move to a comedy club for a drink, then maybe visit another bar after that. He estimated that he has been doing this “every night since 2005”.

40-year-old comedian and television personality, who currently hosts a syndicated Fox game show Who is BLEEP?, gave details of what happened the morning of the accident in October. He was on his way to meet his ex-girlfriend (Kristin Cavallari) for coffee at 9am after a night of “partying and drinking” with about 15 friends at his house.

“I woke up late because I slept through the alarm. I jumped in a cold shower, put on a hat and just got into my Tesla,” he adds. “Teslas are very fast so I just lost control of my car and wrecked it. This is 9 hours after I went to sleep. It wasn’t like I was leaving a bar, I wasn’t hit with a hammer.”

He continues: “When I crashed, I was like hell — there’s probably still alcohol in my system. He adds that he didn’t feel drunk at the time of the crash.

At that point, Dye explains, his first instinct was to get out of there. So he says he just ran out of the car. He says: “I didn’t think about it while driving like I might be driving drunk. I just think, it’s the next day, it’s early morning.”

In the podcast, Dye also says it was humiliating to be arrested in front of everyone in the cafe.
