Biography of Cookie Johnson
Cookie Johnson was born Earletha Kelly in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born as the second daughter in the family. Her mother called her “Kookie” when she was a child. Her mother chose the name Kookie after being inspired by one of the teenage characters on the popular 1960s TV show “77 Sunset Strip”.
As a child, Cookie lived with her family in a house on Hollow Road in the north region of Huntsville. She changed her name from Kookie to Cookie when she was younger and in first grade. Earleatha didn’t know her original name until her mother told her at her all-black boarding school when she was in first grade.
However, when she was in the first grade, her family moved from Alabama as part of the great northern migration of thousands of blacks from the states to the South.
Her family, like many other blacks, traveled to various cities in America. They last settled in Detroit. Cookie later completed her high school education at a school in Detroit. After completing her education, she graduated from Michigan State University. It was in 1977 when she was accepted to Michigan State University, where he met her soul mate, Magic Johnson.
