Officers have now launched an angry hunt for finding a white Mercedes-Benz van driver, who disappeared from the scene at about 10 o’clock.

Greater Manchester police said it was treated as an “isolated incident” as the investigation continues.

Police officers and workers Metrolink have been on the scene of the collision this morning, with four detectives invited to the area.

The tram involved in the collision traveled from Victoria to the Manchester Airport.

Roads were closed and public transport services were canceled with major travel disorders, continuing after the incident.

One shop worker, who works nearby and did not want to be named, said she heard the girl had been injured in the collision, but did not realize that the young man died.

She said to The Sun, “I can’t imagine what her parents go through.

“It’s awful to lose such a daughter. It must be completely broken.”

Others who work nearby reported that they had heard a “collision” and then saw the damaged van.

The other man said, “It looked like the tram hit the van to one side.

“The collision had to make a van on the sidewalk where she hit a poor girl.”

Assistant chief police officer Stephanie Parker of the Police of the Great Manchester said: “First, I would like to conduct a condolence to the victim’s family. This is a tragic incident in which the young girl unfortunately lost her life despite the best attempts of the officer to save her.

“Our investigation is ongoing and we are investigating a number of trials. This is treated as an isolated incident without any threat to the community.

“I thank the public for the patience with the disorder that this incident caused in the city center and our officers will remain in the patrol in the evening. If you have any worries, talk to our officers and educate them how they are here to help and help.

“We understand the effect of an incident like this one will have all the witnesses and our thoughts are with everyone who is worried.”

A major Manchester police spokesman said: “Emergency services respond to a collision report that includes a tram and a van downtown Manchester.

“The three -year -old girl was taken to the hospital and unfortunately passed away from injuries.

“No arrests and scenes were left in place around Mosley Street, Booth Street and Nicholas Street areas while officials conduct their investigation.

“The driver of the van escaped from the scene, and officials follow several investigative lines to find it.”

One witness said Manchester Evening News that he hadn’t seen a collision, but he heard it.

He said “the tram hit the van and just didn’t stop,”

“We checked our CCTV and we could pretty much see what happened,” he added.

“The tram was across the road and the van came out. The tram hit the van and the van continued on.

“He basically took the front of the tram with him.”

Emergency service deployed ambulances, high -response vehicles, air ambulances and senior clinicians.

The emergency spokesman for the Northwest Emergency Room said: “Our thoughts are with family and loved ones a girl who unfortunately passed away after an incident at Manchester City Center today.

“We participated in the scene in Mosley Street this morning at 9.58am, responded with two ambulances, a quick response vehicle, two ambulance teams and a few higher clinicians.”

Pedestrians in the center were reportedly not surprised to see the accident in a busy place, because there is “just a sign of stopping” that prevents collisions.

‘Little angel’

They honored the little girl with many cardiac messages on social networks.

One Facebook user wrote: “This is absolutely awful, today I am here with my little guy and it is so scary to think. Rip of that little angel.”

Others answered, “So very very sad, let this poor little angel Rip Amen pray to her poor family and friends.”

Another said, “God, this is devastating. That poor child and family.”

The fourth added, “This is such a sad poor girl’s family and so sad about this girl who lost her life.”

Mosley Street remains closed and all trams are suspended in St. Peter Square.

Traffic officers warned that there would be serious delays after the break.

The Manchester City Council shared a message to the Tot family, which provided their support.

The Council spokesman said: “The whole Manchester is horrified by this shocking fall.

“All our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this innocent girl.”
