The sister of Kevin Webster, who debuted on the show 40 years ago, will be diagnosed with dementia according to Metro.
A source told the publication: “It’s one of the show’s biggest stories of the year and a real opportunity for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight – it will be devastating for fans that it will actually be her last story.”
They added that bosses plan to make her exit go down in the history books with some of the most emotional scenes ever to grace a soap opera.
The insider added: “It’s one of many major storylines new boss Kate Brooks has in the bag, and there won’t be a dry eye in the house.
“There is no doubt in the Corrie family that she will give the performance of a lifetime and make Debbie’s exit one to remember for years to come.”
Although the plot will begin next year, it is believed to take place for a long time, and Debbie will remain on screen until her death, possibly after 2025.
Debbie first joined the cast in 1984 at the age of 15, but only stayed for a year.
Actress Sue then reprized the role in 2019 and has remained on the show ever since.
Debbie has become a fan favorite over the past few years and is being heralded by many as one of the biggest characters in comedy in recent years.
She is best known for being the owner of the Charriott Square Hotel and for her association with evil businessman Ray Crosby and his once planned takeover of the entire street.
Coronation Street fans have been left speechless by Debbie Webster’s VERY glamorous makeover in a low-cut dress
The news of her departure has so far drawn mixed reactions from fans, with many delighted that Debbie will eventually take over the show’s lead role, but heartbroken that her character will come to an end.
Writing online, one fan said: “One of the most underused characters in the show, and now they’re killing her off. Huge mistake, IMO.”
Someone else said: “Definitely mixed feelings. I’ve only just started watching Corrie, and she’s definitely become a favorite character. I’ll love to see more of her on screen, but yeah.”
A third wrote: “Terrible decision to let her go.”
The shocking exit from Coronation Street 2024
Corrie said goodbye to several actors this year. Let’s clarify who left the famous soap opera:
Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) said goodbye to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.
The girl moved in with her father Dom Everett, who returned on a £10,000 bribe offered by Eliza’s grandfather Stu to keep him out of her life.
Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will quit the soap this summer when he loses his battle with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.
After being diagnosed last year, the fan favorite was devastated to learn he only had a few months left to live.
Viewers know that he plans to take his own life to end his suffering.
Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) left the cobbles after being offered the chance of a lifetime to study in America.
Although she struggled to make a decision about her stepfather Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced that she had to live her life to the fullest.
Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.
The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.
Simon has been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.
Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.
She looks set to head to Dublin after landing a lucrative new job, ditching a colleague and ditching Adam Barlow.
Show host Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the UK tour of Sister Act The Musical. She will return to recording in May after her tour dates are over.
Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.
Before the fourth said, “Sue is absolutely going to fix this story and it gives Debbie, Kev and Abi a big story during 2025. Deb is kind of isolated but she always fits in anywhere and KB [Kate Brooks] is behind Ashley’s dementia story. It will be a really good story.”
The news of the explosive new storyline comes after boss Kate Brooks teased a number of other epic plots to appear in the soap before Christmas.
Ahead of Debbie’s exit, Corrie fans will be waving to another legend of the show – Gail Platt.
The icon will say goodbye to the soap on Christmas Day in a big twist for viewers.

Speaking to The Sun and other media, new Coronation Street boss Kate said: “It’s great fun, Christmas is very lively in the street, lots of bombs have been thrown.
“Obviously this is set against Gail’s wedding, I can’t say anything about whether she will do it or not.
“But this is a story with the Platts at the center, it’s really festive, it’s basically a story about a family and how secrets affect and implode a family, so there’s a lot of betrayal, a lot of secrets are revealed during this episode and it’s going to be like classic Corrie with a bit of a twist.”
