Coronation Street rocked as award-winning star dubbed ‘new Michelle Keegan’ QUITS to become fifth to leave in weeks

CRONATION Street beauty Charlotte Jordan has left the soap — the fifth star to leave in just a month.

The 28-year-old, who plays Rovers barmaid Daisy Midgeley, will step down later this year.

She said last night: “My time in Coronation Street is something I will always cherish.

“After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.”

Charlotte, billed as the next Michelle Keegan, told sources that despite “loving the show” she wants to see what other opportunities lie ahead.

The popular star’s departure comes after four actors announced they were quitting or were axed from the soap since December.

Charlotte said: “It has been a privilege to be part of a wonderful institution with even more wonderful colleagues who have taught me so much.

“After a brilliant four years for Daisy, it’s time to start a new chapter and explore other opportunities.”

The explosive story was staged for her release.

Since arriving in 2020, Daisy has been part of the soap’s biggest moments, including her stalking ordeal and a plot to take over the Rovers with stolen money.

She won the British Soap Award for Best Drama Performance after Daisy was the victim of an acid attack on Justin Rutherford’s (Andrew Still) wedding day.

On Christmas Day, Daisy discovered that she was pregnant with the child of ex Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) or new lover Kit Green (Jacob Roberts).

The source added: “Charlotte loved her time on the cobbles but is young, ambitious and hungry to see what else is out there for her.

“She told bosses last April that her next contract would be her last, giving them a year to come up with an exciting exit story.

“She is still filming now and her final scenes will take place in early summer. She is adored by the cast and crew and will be greatly missed.”

ITV soaps Corrie and Emmerdale have recently experienced budget cuts.

Corrie’s new boss, Kate Brooks, warned last month that she would be cutting back on characters, including “some unexpected ones that will cause shock”.

Colson Smith (Craig Tinker), Sue Cleaver (Eileen Grimshaw), Luca Toolan (Mason Radcliffe) and Sue Devaney (Debbie Webster) drop out or have been written off.

Sean Wilson was fired in September over the historic sex allegations, of which he was later exonerated.

He was supposed to return as Martin Platt as part of the exit storyline of Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth.

Charlotte is a huge loss for Corrie

THE Sun’s Soaps editor Carl Greenwood reveals why this is a huge loss for Corrie bosses

LOVE her or hate her, Daisy Midgeley injected some much-needed fire into Coronation Street when she joined in 2020.

Actress Charlotte has made her mark since those early days as the scheming villain who storms into the life of former stepmother Jenny Connor, intent on causing chaos wherever she goes.

But incredibly she did something far greater with Daisy – she made her human.

Over the years Daisy has retained her scheming ways but has matured into a fully rounded classic Corrie character that viewers adore.

Given huge storylines like the acid attack – Charlotte has proven that she is a great actress and has a bright future ahead of her.

Losing Charlotte will be a heavy blow for the soap – especially with Lucy Fallon temporarily going on maternity leave.

Cobblestones really lacks younger female characters that aren’t Dee-Dee Bailey – and it’s starting to show.

Corrie shines best with its array of strong women – and it will be hard to replace Charlotte, but they’ll have to find a way to do it soon.

Corrie is going out as a soap opera hit by a financial crisis

Colson Smith – who has played Craig Tinker for 14 years – took to Instagram 24 hours earlier (Monday, January 6) to announce that his character had been axed from the show.

The 26-year-old told fans that he was told by ITV bosses that his character was on his way out last year, saying: “I was told last autumn that Craig Tinkers time on the Cobbles would end in 2025.

“I LOVED every second of my 14-year stay as a resident of the GREATEST street in the world.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in and around Coronation Street.

“I’ve learned almost everything about life from the people who call it home.

“I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.”

He added: “For me, this is just the end of the beginning. I honestly can’t wait to see what chapter two has in store for me.”

Luca Toolan – who played Mason Radcliffe for 16 months – dramatically left the series on Monday’s (January 6) broadcast after the reformed thug was stabbed to death by his own brother.

The former Weatherfield High bully, played by newcomer Luca, 20, has been trying to turn his life around after being jailed for knife possession himself amid a vicious campaign of bullying by fellow schoolmate Liam Connor.

Luca’s proud dad, radio presenter Mike Toolan, wrote on social media: “What a journey. Incredibly proud. Well done my friend. @coronationstreet What a show, what an experience and what amazing friends you’ve made along the way. Here’s to the next chapter @lucatoolan.”

Sue Cleaver – who has played Eileen Grimshaw for 25 years – revealed on Saturday (January 4) that she had decided to leave Corrie because it was “time to embrace change”.

In a statement, the 61-year-old actor and regular Loose Women panellist announced she was leaving the show to pursue new acting projects this spring.

She said: “I’ve had 25 privileged years working on Coronation Street. The door is still wide open, but as I entered my 60s, I decided it was time to embrace change, seek new adventures and live fearlessly.”

Sue Devaney – who played Debbie Webster on and off for four decades – hit the headlines last month with reports she was “furious” after learning she had been axed from the show.

Sources said the news reportedly came as a shock to the actress, who had no plans to quit the show and needed time to consider the decision.

Debbie is believed to be diagnosed with dementia in a major plot twist that will mark her departure from the soap.
