CORONATION Street star Luca Toolan has broken his silence after leaving the soap after just 16 months.

He said: “Of course when I first heard there was a mix of emotions because I was sad that Mason was going to die and that meant I was going to be gone, but I was also very excited and honored to be a part of this story because it’s an incredibly important issue to be dealt with.

“I feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to start my professional career on Coronation Street and what a great time I’ve had.”

And he had to keep the secret for almost a year.

He added: “I found out sometime in February or March, so it was a long wait. It gave me a chance to explore the story quite a bit which was great.”

The scenes saw Mason stabbed by his brothers after his friend Dylan brought a knife in an attempt to defend him.

Mason staggered to the playground and sat until Abi Webster found him and desperately tried to save him.

He was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately he died.

And Luca found it exhausting.

He said: “It was exhausting to shoot but amazing. I was so focused, and this kind of story is what you crave as an actor.

“I love long days and hard work, and even shooting outside in the cold.

“I would wake up every day and be in a rush to go to work.

“The whole crew was so supportive and created an environment where you could put yourself in that emotional space and get on with it.

“It was an amazing experience shooting those scenes.”

Viewers watched the devastating twist tonight, but Luca was not among them.

He said: “I don’t really like watching myself with other people anyway, so I’m not sure if I could watch this with anyone.”

Shock exits from Coronation Street 2024

Corrie said goodbye to several actors this year. Let’s clarify who left the famous soap opera:

Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) said goodbye to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.

The girl moved in with her father Dom Everett, who returned on a £10,000 bribe offered by Eliza’s grandfather Stu to keep him out of her life.

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) will quit the soap this summer when he loses his battle with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.

After being diagnosed last year, the fan favorite was devastated to learn he only had a few months left to live.

Viewers know that he plans to take his own life to end his suffering.

Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) left the cobbles after being offered the chance of a lifetime to study in America.

Although she struggled to make a decision about her stepfather Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced that she had to live her life to the fullest.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.

The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.

Simon has been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.

Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.

It looks like she’ll be heading to Dublin after landing a lucrative new job, ditching a colleague and ditching Adam Barlow.

Show host Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the UK tour of Sister Act The Musical. She will return to recording in May after her tour dates are over.

Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.

But she plans to continue working after Corrie, adding: “I love acting so much and I really hope to keep doing it.

“I seriously learned a lot from Corrie and I’m very grateful to everyone involved there. As for my future, I’m not sure what it holds, but a saying I like to say is, ‘I aim for the stars, and if I miss, I’ll hit the moon’”.
