Coronation Street star quits soap after just a year on show – and he’s already lined up a new job

CORONATION Street’s Calum Lill is leaving the soap just over a year after joining, The Sun can exclusively reveal.

The actor – who plays villain Joel Deering in the ITV soap – will leave in explosive scenes in the coming months.

Viewers recently watched as Calum’s character Joel was revealed to be grooming and abusing young girls and to be responsible for the attempted murder of Lauren Bolton.

They watched in agony as he drugged her in an attempt to kill her child – but his plan backfired when she went into labor early and the baby survived.

Now it has been revealed that Joel’s house of cards could come crashing down as fiancée Dee-Dee begins to question some of his lies to her.

And it will culminate with his exit from the cobblestones.

A source said: “Calum has made a big impact as Joel over the last year but always knew it would be temporary.

“He was great playing Joel, but all good soap villains have to get their due, and Joel’s is coming very soon.

“He’s already got his first job after the show and will be done in time to start rehearsing for it.

“But Joel on screen has no idea what awaits him as his dark secrets begin to emerge.”

Actor Calum previously spoke about how he was feeling emotional about his potential exit from the soap – realizing he was playing

“I think it’s bittersweet for me,” he said.

“As an actor, it gets juicier, but as soon as this comes to a head, I’m leaving this amazing place filled with so many people that I’ve come to know and love and who have been some of my best friends for the last 18 months.

“I’m very excited to get to the end of the story, but it’s going to be very bittersweet because it’s the most amazing place to work.”

The actor also landed his first Corrie role – signing up to appear in panto on the other side of the country.

He has signed up to appear in the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk in Bournemouth later this year.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.

The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.

Simon has been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.

Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.

She looks set to head to Dublin after landing a lucrative new job, ditching a colleague and ditching Adam Barlow.

Show host Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, is taking a break to star in the UK tour of Sister Act The Musical. She will return to recording in May after her tour dates are over.

Her character left the Street after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia.

Calum will play the villainous Fleshcreep in the production which runs from Saturday 7 December 2024 to Sunday 5 January 2025.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to my Christmas Boo’s in Bournemouth, when I bring my dastardly Fleshcreep on stage. Come on!”
