Jay Slater, 19, from Lancashire, was on the island for a music festival and disappeared after desperately calling his friends saying he was in the “middle of nowhere”.

He spent Sunday night with friends he had just met before disappearing on his way home in the morning.

Vicky shared one of the missing posters circulating online, adding: “My godmother’s grandson is missing. His mother flew out at 7pm. To join the police search.

“Hope to God they find him. Please pray for him.”

Fans flocked to the comments to reassure them, with one saying: “I saw this on Facebook Vicky, seems to be sharing far and wide, hopefully there will be good news soon with all the love and support out there, it’s just doing a lot harder abroad! Love and prayers to you all.”

Another offered: “We’re in Tenerife if we can help in any way let us know.”

The teenager’s last known location was the Teno rural park in north-west Tenerife – a popular hiking spot.

The last time we heard from him was Monday morning at 8 o’clock when he frantically called a friend saying he was lost, needed water and had 1 percent battery left on his phone.

A spokeswoman for the Tenerife Civil Guard said police were desperately trying to find Jay, from Oswaldtwistle, with the help of mountain rescue teams and police helicopters.

She said: “A specialist mountain rescue and intervention group called Greim has been mobilised.

“The police helicopter is also out and focusing on the area around the village of Masca.

“Other emergency services were also mobilized, including firefighters.

Everything possible is being done to find the missing man.

The people Jay met were staying in a flat “in the middle of nowhere”, his close friend Lucy told the Manchester Evening News.

Lucy called Jay on Monday morning after he had spent the night with his friends and he told her he was walking back to their holiday home.

He told her he “didn’t know where he was” and needed water before the call ended.

Tracking his phone, Lucy said the last location was in the middle of the mountains in Teno Rural Park.

Lucy told the Manchester Evening News: “He went on a night out, he went to a friend’s house, someone he met on holiday.

“One of the people he met rented a car from here, so he drove them back to his apartment and Jay went there not realizing how far it was.

“He ended up in the middle of nowhere. Jay obviously thought he could get home from there.”
