Living EXPENSES payments worth £500 are now paid into bank accounts.
Cash support, which can be claimed as support for energy and food bills, is available through the government’s Household Support Fund.

The scheme works by giving councils across the country a portion of the funds available to share with Britons in need.
Each local authority receives a different part of the funding depending on the size of the collection area, the number of inhabitants and the number of vulnerable households.
Voucher or grant amounts vary by location, so you need to check what you can get and how the municipality will pay you.
Now thousands of West Devon residents can apply for the money.
The council says each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis and cash is paid out by bank transfer.
For anyone eligible for support, but with limited funding of £125k available, we will also prioritize residents on the lowest incomes to help as many households as possible.
The council said it was also supporting young people leaving care with £500.
During the last round, 137 residents received support, according to the Council.

What if I don’t live in West Devon
To get help, you’ll need to check with your municipality, as local authorities are responsible for distributing funds.
To find your local authority, use the gov.uk council finder.
Once you’ve found your council, there should be information on their website about how to apply.
Each council will have a different application process – so the exact details of how to apply will vary depending on where you live.
This means that the eligibility conditions for accessing the fund could also vary.
Some councils will not ask you to apply for help and will instead contact you if you qualify.
If there is no information on your council’s website then it is best to call them and ask for more information.
What do other councils offer?
Blackpool residents can get up to £300 in support from the Household Support Fund.
Those living in Bracknell Forest could be entitled to a grant of £315.
Low-income households in Cambridgeshire can apply for a financial award of £110 per household.
Those living in Falkirk who receive council tax reduction, housing benefit, universal credit, income support, jobseeker’s allowance or pension credit can apply for up to £470 in cash support.
Middlesborough rewards families in dire straits with up to £70.
What energy bill help is available?
THERE are several different ways to get help paying your energy bills if you’re struggling to get by.
If you fall into debt, you can always contact your supplier to see if they can put you on a repayment plan before they put you on the prepayment meter.
This involves paying off what you owe in installments over a period of time.
If the supplier offers you a repayment plan that you don’t think you can afford, talk to them again to see if you can negotiate a better deal.
Several energy companies offer grant schemes for customers struggling to meet their bills.
But eligibility criteria vary by supplier, and the amount you can get depends on your financial circumstances.
For example, British Gas or Scottish Gas customers struggling to pay their energy bills can receive grants worth up to £1,500.
British Gas also offers help through its British Gas Energy Trust and Individuals Family Fund.
You do not need to be a British Gas customer to apply for another fund.
EDF, E.ON, Octopus Energy and Scottish Power are also offering grants to struggling customers.
Thousands of vulnerable households miss out on additional help and protection because they are not registered in the Register of Priority Services (PSR).
The service helps support vulnerable households, such as those who are elderly or ill, and some of the benefits include receiving advance warnings about power cuts, free gas safety checks and extra support if you have a problem.
