Can Crystal Kung Minkoff follow her ex The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills to follow Erika Jayne’s footsteps and perform on Broadway in the future?

PEOPLE caught up with Kung Minkoff, 41, and her husband Rob Minkoff at Unforgettable: The 22nd Annual Asian American Awards at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, December 14, where they shared updates on the big project.

“Rob was working on a musical based on an old Chinese book and movie, Farewell my concubine,” Crystal exclusively told PEOPLE.
The big movie version from 1994 Farewell my concubineadapted from the 1985 novel of the same name, which starred the late Leslie Chung, Gong Li and Zhang Fengyi. The film, a love triangle set against a Chinese opera, earned Oscar nominations for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography in 1994.

When asked if his wife would appear in the musical, Rob, 62, replied: “I hope so. I might have to twist her arm.”
“You know what, if you had told me five years ago that I would be a housewife, I would have bet everything that I wouldn’t. So you never know!” Crystal added.
Crystal wouldn’t be the first Real Housewives star to go on stage. Erika Jayne played Roxie Hart in the Chicago before COVID halted production. The “Xxpensive” singer recently announced that she is returning to Broadway in January to reprise her role in a three-week run.
Rob’s musical version Farewell my concubine he may be years away from Broadway, but he sure has the credentials – he co-directed an Oscar-winning animated film The lion kingtwo Stuart Little films in 2003 as well Haunted palace starring Eddie Murphy.
Meanwhile, Crystal is busy with her coconut water line and her Humble Brag podcast with colleagues Real Housewives alum Cynthia Bailey.

The Minkoffs tell PEOPLE they will spend the holidays skiing with their two children, son Max and daughter Zoe.
“We’re going to be low-key,” Crystal said of the holidays. “It’s been a lot so we need a little break.”
Unforgettable: The 22nd Annual Asian American Awards recognized the API community’s biggest and brightest talent in entertainment, arts and culture. Wonho, The Jets and 98 Degrees performed at the ceremony. The show is available for streaming on GoldenTV.
