Couple Planning a Hobbit-Themed Wedding on New Zealand Movie Set: ‘We’re Going on an Adventure!’

Bride-to-be Monique Bryson shared in a TikTok video that she and her fiance Charles — who live in Sydney, Australia — are set to tie the knot at the Hobbiton tourist attraction in Matamata, New Zealand, where both were filmed Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy.

“Let’s go on an adventure!!” she said in the caption of her video, which opens with a shot of Bryson, a fantastic photographer and director, standing next to a wooden Hobbiton sign.

“So my partner Charles and I are getting married on the set of Hobbiton in New Zealand and we couldn’t be more excited,” she explained in a voiceover.

“But you can’t get married without invitations,” she continued, showing off the couple’s perfectly themed stationery, inscribed with all the details of their upcoming wedding in November 2024.

Bryson explained that she had been recording the invitations on her phone since 2015, in anticipation of her wedding one day in the future. She and Charles ordered their invitations from a company that specializes in pop culture-themed stationery.

Her video highlighted all the special details of the parchment invitations, including calligraphy in gold ink, a wax seal designed with a pair of overlapping rings, and an inner envelope made from a large green leaf.

“I was dying,” Bryson said when he first saw the invitations in person. – I was not disappointed.

The invitation also includes a card with key details about the event — along with the couple’s special request for their 60 guests.

“We know that the search for Middle-earth is expensive, so instead of any gift, we would like each of you to look at it Fellowship of the Ring before the party,” he writes.

In a series of Q&A videos, Bryson shared more information about the costs and planning involved in hosting a Hobbiton wedding. In one clip, she revealed that she and her fiance booked their wedding date two and a half years in advance to secure a spot at the requested venue.

“We paid the deposit in March 2022, and the wedding is at the end of this year,” she pointed out.

As for the cost, “it’s actually not as expensive as you might think,” she said in another video, promising to do a detailed cost breakdown in the next TikTok.

According to a brochure on Hobbiton’s website, couples who want to get married at the cinema can use various locations for their special events, including the Hobbit Gardens, the Millhouse and the Green Dragon Inn, a replica of the pub featured in the films.

Couples can also pay extra for wedding photography which gives them access to special sections of film on the tour to capture memorable shots in private.
