Taylor Swift is a four-letter word in the home of a Maryland couple.
Last month, Dane Rice’s husband said he “couldn’t take it anymore” and made a makeshift jar to take advantage of his wife’s frequent mentions of Swift, 33.
Dana later posted a hilarious video on Instagram of her husband, Dan Rice, creating the jar, with the caption: “If you mention T. Swift, you owe $0.25.”
Now, speaking to PEOPLE, Dana says she had “no idea” he was “making up a prop like that” while he was making it in front of her.

In the video, they can be seen standing together in the kitchen, with Dan asking Dan for a crisp cookie.
“To be honest, he was annoying me because I was trying to get things done,” Dana — a realtor — explains to PEOPLE.
Then, pulling out her phone to film her husband because she thought he was “doing something for my niece’s birthday,” Dana continues, “When I came around the corner, the jar caught me off guard because he was so unceremoniously creating it.”
He adds that in the video “you can see a smile on his face” as he acted on his idea.
“My husband immediately gave me a reel of quarters… And of course they go straight into the jar,” says Dana.

In an Oct. 15 video Dana shared on Instagram, her husband taped a piece of paper to the jar and described the rules of the new system, noting that any mention of Swift’s new boyfriend, Travis Kelce, also applies and means she similarly owes .25 dollars.
“No! He doesn’t count,” Dana protested in the video, noting that the pair appeared on Saturday night live that weekend.
“It’s a quarter,” her husband replied.

Dana tells PEOPLE that she wasn’t a Swift fan for long, but the singer’s recent record-breaking Eras Tour changed that.
“I’ve always been a fan of Taylor Swift singing along,” she explains. “It wasn’t until I read comments from non-music industry leaders talking about her tour last spring that I realized I should learn more about this person.”
So once she started looking deeper into the “Anti-Hero” singer, her status as a fan was quickly cemented.
“There’s so much ‘lore’ about Taylor Swift that once you start, it seems like you can’t stop consuming it,” says Dana.

Dana also shares her two cents on Swift’s budding romance with the Kansas City Chiefs tight end — who was spotted in the crowd at the singer’s Eras tour in Argentina on Saturday night, before the two shared a sweet kiss backstage after her performance.
“The public story of two superstars finding each other — whether for a short time or a lifetime — will always be captivating,” she says, adding that the relationship is “a lot of fun” for music and sports fans to watch unfold.
“Who is not attracted to it [a] fairy tale with [a] Hollywood End?” Dana says.
