All About the Bob Dylan Biopic Starring Timothée Chalamet

Timothée Chalamet takes on the role of Bob Dylan in a new biopic.

Conditionally titled Complete unknownthe upcoming film will follow the early life and career of the famed singer-songwriter as he rose to prominence in the 1960s.

Plans for the film were first announced in January 2020, and filming recently began in NYC as Chalamet was spotted in character on set.

After showing his pipes in WonkaChalamet will also sing as Dylan for the new film, and his vocal coach previously told PEOPLE that fans will be amazed by his talent.

“When that movie finally comes out, people will be shocked because you’ll think you’re hearing Bob Dylan singing,” Eric Vetro told PEOPLE. “Once again, he just has this uncanny ability to not act, but to really breathe life into him. He embodies Bob Dylan and what he was at that age.”

Movie, original title Switching to electricitywill reportedly focus on Dylan’s controversial switch to electric guitar in the ’60s and his journey to becoming a folk music legend, per Deadline.

Set in New York, the film is said to follow Chalamet as 19-year-old Dylan as he rises to fame in the folk music scene and eventually lands a record deal with Columbia Records.

In addition to Chalamet as Dylan, the film will also feature other well-known actors playing famous personalities. Edward Norton stars as folk singer Pete Seeger (replacing Benedict Cumberbatch, who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts), while Elle Fanning is set to play Dylan’s love interest, Sylvie Russo.

Other cast members include Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Nick Offerman as Alan Lomax and Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, per Rolling stone.
