Gabby Barrett Says She’s Turned Down Duets in Order to ‘Respect’ Her Husband: ‘Not Going to Jeopardize My Marriage’

Country singer Gabby Barrett says she turned down duets with male singers so as not to “jeopardize” her marriage to husband Cade Foehner.

The singer of the song I Hope (23) spoke about her relationship with Foehner (27) on Unexpected with Hannah Love podcast, and explained that she has accepted certain boundaries when it comes to career commitments.

“There have been great opportunities for a song to do a duet or be a part of, and something between me and my husband… I respect him a lot and listen to what he has to say, and I think he deserves it,” Barrett told Love, who is married to Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay.

The star continued: “There were songs that weren’t suitable to sing in terms of words, like these love songs that are really intimate in terms of words. And then when you accept the song, it comes with obligations, that you can sing it together at awards ceremonies, maybe give interviews together. What does it look like on stage? What does that dynamic look like if I sing with another man? Will this make my husband uncomfortable? Probably.”

Barrett is currently expecting the couple’s third child, a girl, who will join older sister Baylah May, 2½, and brother Augustin Boone, 14 months.

“I respect him and I love him so much that I’m not going to jeopardize my marriage to do a duet with someone,” she said on the podcast. “I care a lot more about this and I pray and I hope and I know that God will bless my efforts in trying to keep my marriage good and not … just for a duet or whatever.”

The singer said she and Foehner sought counseling and were told in those sessions that they were both “strong-willed people,” something she says she believes helps her stay strong in her beliefs.

“I’ve had a ton of people tell me that, or they’ve texted me, or they’ve made comments about me and said, ‘She’s ruining her career by talking about these things, and X, Y and Z,'” Barrett said. “Because I value godly marriage more than anything the world has to offer…”

Barrett released her debut album Gold mine 2020, and should release a sequel called Chapter and versein February.

She revealed her upcoming bundle of joy to PEOPLE in September, saying she’s excited to have “another girl and another girl personality in the house.”

“My first was a girl, the second was a boy, the third will be a girl again. That’s why you love girls, you love raising your first,” she said. “So much personality in the house.”

While pregnant with Baylah in 2021, Barrett also told PEOPLE that Foehner was an excellent caregiver.
