Courteney Cox and I Both Use This Cloud-Like Exfoliating Powder for Clean, Smooth Skin — Get It from $18

Welcome to The A-List, where we review products that your favorite celebrities wear and use, and that we actually really love.

For years, I took the phrase “scrub-a-dub-dub” too literally. I would rub my face red and raw with an abrasive scrub or use harsh scrubs that would burn my skin immediately after application. My efforts always ended with dry, irritated, sensitive skin, so I eventually stopped experimenting with exfoliation altogether.

But then I saw Courteney Cox, 59, rave about Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant Exfoliator: “It really cleans your skin and it also exfoliates, but it doesn’t dry you out at all,” she told PEOPLE. “I think that’s one of the most important things.”

The actress discovered Dermalogica for the first time on set friends, and now, more than a decade later, she has partnered with the brand. In short, this is what impressed me: Cox certainly uses the best of the best skin care products. So if she used those brands, I knew they had to be the real deal. So, I decided to try it after the brand sent it to me.

What exactly does the product do? The rice-based powder has a ton of beneficial ingredients in its formula, including salicylic acid and AHAs, as well as soothing ingredients like colloidal oatmeal and allantoin, which help “polish skin to perfection,” according to the brand. In short, it smoothes and evens out your skin tone, helps reduce unevenness, and brightens the entire complexion.

In addition, it is gentle enough for everyday use. Cox uses it twice a day, while I prefer to use it every other day — it’s all about finding what works best for you and your skin. The most important thing is to use the product correctly.

To begin, pour about half a teaspoon of the product into your bowl or hands. Then add water and mix until it foams like soap. Unlike other scrubs, it doesn’t feel like there’s a lot of loose powder or gritty bits left behind — honestly, it shouldn’t feel like a scrub at all. The goal is to make it “not grainy, but a foamy consistency,” as the brand shared in a TikTok demo. From here, all you have to do is rub it on your skin for a minute and then rinse it off.

It requires minimal effort, but it has mega results: While using the product, I’m always surprised by how soft and light it feels on my skin. Yes, I can still smell a few bits of powder, but I think that’s more operator error than anything else. Maybe I just need to add a little more water (which you should do if it’s still too powdery). But even so, it looks light and fluffy like a cumulus cloud, and it’s exactly what I imagine those clouds to look like.

Afterwards, my skin is always sparkling clean, but not dehydrated or stripped. And when I run my hands over my face, it’s soft, smooth and supple — like the feeling of freshly shaved legs. Combined with my moisturizer, my skin also looks brighter, healthier and fresher.

The only negatives I’ve found have nothing to do with the product itself, but the packaging: I like to keep my skincare products in the shower and I find that I have to be extra careful that water doesn’t get into the bottle. I also noticed that after traveling with the exfoliator, some of the product started to spill.

I have the full size version, which retails for $65. I’ve been using it for a few months and still feel like I have about half a bottle left. But if you don’t want to shell out that much cash, the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Exfoliator also comes in a travel version that costs just $18.

You can also choose other products from the brand like the Precleanse Cleansing Oil, which I also love, or the Hydrating Serum that makeup artist Madelyn Cline used to prep her skin for Foreign banks season 3 premiere.
