Courteney Cox Teams Up with Shark and Reveals She Has Actually Cleaned a Vacuum, Like Monica Geller (Exclusive)

Courteney Cox’s latest collaboration is one that Monica Geller would approve of.

The Friends The alum, 60, is partnering with Shark in a campaign to highlight two new devices, the PowerDetect NeverTouch Pro 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop and the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty Cordless Vacuum Cleaner.

“Obviously, I’m known as a total freak,” the actress tells PEOPLE, noting that her reputation doesn’t just come from her. Friends the character’s well-known obsession with cleanliness.

“Anyone who knows me, any of my friends, knows that I just love things that are organized and neat and clean, and I can’t help it,” she says. “I was born like this and it is very important to me. One of the things that makes me happy is having a really clean environment.”

Courteney Cox reveals why she’s ‘obsessed’ with cleaning and home design: ‘I’m Monica’

Cox, who will appear in a series of videos for the brand starting this month, shared some of her favorite features of the vacuum cleaner.

“The shark actually cleans the other way around and I think that’s amazing,” she says. “So you’re not just wasting extra manpower.”

“He almost drives himself. You just go for a ride with it, which I love, but it detects dirt, finds it, tells you, ‘Oh, by the way, I found this dirt,’” adds Cox, who is also a fan of their self-cleaning technology.

Although Cox says she’s never used a small vacuum cleaner to clean a larger one — as Monica memorably did in a season 10 episode friends — she understands the urge to keep them pristine.

“I’ve never vacuumed my vacuum, but I would 1000% vacuum my vacuum,” she says. “Actually, when I was on the set of the film [Shark] commercials, I said to the prop man, ‘Can you pass me your cloth?’ And right now I have a few places that no one will see like I do. I always say I suffer from acute awareness.”

As for Monica’s funniest pure freak moments, Cox says two always come to mind.

There is one scene from Season 4 where Monica is spinning on the floor. She also recalls how her character preferred to clean up when boyfriend-turned-husband Chandler (played by the late Matthew Perry) was in love.

“He was trying to be romantic and said, ‘You just want to stay home and clean.’ I said, ‘Yes.'”

Cox says that while Monica’s tendencies may have been considered excessive by everyone else, they “seemed normal” to her.

But while Monica was known for keeping a messy closet, the actress says she doesn’t have a similarly disorganized space.

“I really don’t think I have a room where I feel comfortable saying, ‘Oh, that’s a junk drawer. I don’t mind,’ she says.

When it comes to clutter, Cox says her biggest pet peeve is red wine on the wallpaper. She’s also obsessed with keeping her kitchen counter clean with a spray from HomeCourt, a home care line she launched in 2022.

“I’m pretty much the kind of person who can fix everything,” he adds. “I’m a big entertainer, so the house is always a mess.”

She recently debuted a new HomeCourt collection inspired by another important person in her life, her 20-year-old daughter Coco Arquette.

However, Cox says Coco “doesn’t” share her passion for organizing and cleaning.

“Every once in a while she’ll say, ‘Mommy, I cleaned my room and I feel so good.’ And I say, ‘That’s a feeling you can have all the time,’ but it just doesn’t happen,” Cox says. “But she’s getting old and living alone.”

“And she is proud of it, which I think is good,” he adds. “But no, I don’t think she has my gene in the same way that I don’t have hers. Listen, she’s a great singer. She is a great writer. She has so many qualities that I don’t have, so that’s fine.”
