On Tuesday, September 6, 2022, New Mexico Judge Francis Mathew removed Griffin as Otero County County Commissioner.
He was found to be involved in the January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol and co-founded “Cowboys for Trump” in support of the former president. Not only that, he is now barred from being appointed to any state or federal elective office in the future, also under the Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution.
