Craig Conover Says He and Paige DeSorbo Aren’t Rushing to Engagement: ‘Enjoying What We Have’ (Exclusive)

At last year’s BravoCon, Southern charmCraig Conover said he would propose to her Summer house‘s Paige DeSorbo “whenever Paige is ready to say yes.”

A year later, the couple continues to split their time between New York and Charleston, South Carolina, and Conover and DeSorbo tell PEOPLE that the urgency of the proposal has waned.

“It’s funny how things evolve and change,” says Conover, 34. “I think there was so much pressure on it from the outside world, and that’s what I would say ‘normal couples’ did, if we talked about it so many.”

The Sewing Down South founder says he decided to “do things long distance” with DeSorba, 30.

“I love what we have now,” he says. “My home base is Charleston and hers is New York, but if that was a Venn diagram, we’re crossing over. We are together all the time, we are just in one place and another. I think we have the best of both worlds. I know it’s unique, but it works.”

DeSorbo agrees: “We have two homes and I feel so chic!”

She also began to feel “much more comfortable” in Charleston over the past year.

“All Southern charm The girls have been so lovely and so sweet to me, and I’m really so grateful because it’s hard for anyone to come into a new group of girls,” says DeSorbo. “Olivia [Flowers]It was so cute and Madison [LeCroy] and Venita [Aspen] is always up in New York, so I’m really grateful that they’ve been so good to me.”

Conover and DeSorbo, who recently teamed up for Sewing Down South The Paige Collection 2.0, have learned not to listen to other people’s opinions about their relationship.

“I know a lot of people think, ‘Well, we want more. That doesn’t make sense,’ he says. “But I think I’ve settled into a more sustainable flow, that’s what works for us and let’s enjoy it instead of rushing to the next step.”

DeSorbo says the warmth she and Conover received, especially early on in their relationship, “brought us closer.”

“We don’t give too much weight to people hating us,” he said Giggly Squad says the podcast co-host. “I don’t think we do that even with the people who love us because we know what reality TV is like and how quickly things can change. But we’re extremely grateful and obviously love meeting the fans. It’s definitely one of our favorite parts of our job.”

Conover loves hearing positive messages from his long-distance partners.

“I think it’s fun to be able to bring people joy and be a good example of a non-traditional relationship,” says the author Pillow Talk: What’s Wrong With My Sewing? “We realize it doesn’t look like any other relationship, but it’s still fun to share with everyone.”

Between BravoCon, DeSorbo’s upcoming birthday, their anniversary and the holidays, Conover and DeSorbo have an eventful next few months.

“At least I know you can’t combine gifts,” Conover jokes.

The fashion influencer considers herself “an easy person to shop for, but I know Craig would say otherwise.” He says Conover records potential gifts all year.

“All year long, if I say I like something, he writes it down in the Notes app, and then I usually get all these things for Christmas,” DeSorbo says. “Last year I didn’t realize I said I wanted a waffle maker, so I got a waffle maker as one of the presents. Craig is actually very considerate when it comes to gifts.”

BravoCon — which takes place this weekend in Las Vegas — will kick off the busy season, and DeSorbo spent months planning her outfit.

“I start picking outfits for BravoCon in, I’d say August,” she says. “By mid-October, I delete half of them because I’m like, ‘I don’t know what I was thinking two months ago.’ I’m in the process of finalizing it. Honestly, it’s so stressful.”

DeSorbo coordinates with her Summer house fellow cast members too.

“We’re in a group chat and sometimes we’ll send messages like, ‘What’s your vibe for tonight?'” she shares. “We often send our clothes in the group chat, whenever we have Summer house painting. We’ve talked about it and everybody’s pretty much in the same boat and arguing.”
