A British man who went missing from a cruise ship in Europe texted his wife moments before he fell into the sea, she said.
Liam Jones, 23, from Scotland, was on a week-long cruise through northern Europe with his family aboard the MSC Euribia when he fell into the sea on March 16, MSC Cruises told Metro.
According to Jones’ wife, 20-year-old Sophia Mcphee, the social work student had just texted her that she was feeling seasick before his disappearance.
“He’s just gone. I’ll never see him again,” Mcphee said Daily record. “I’m devastated. I have so many questions and I’m not getting answers about what happened.”
Mcphee said Jones’ sister – who called her to break the news of her husband’s disappearance – told her security camera footage showed Jones falling into the sea. However, McPhee said she has not been updated on the investigation since then.

“[Jones’ sister] said there had been an accident and that Liam was ‘not coming back,’ Mcphee said Daily record. “Then she said she saw the CCTV and he was overreacting.”
Mcphee last saw her husband on March 14, when he left Dundee in Scotland House to meet his family in Glasgow before they boarded a cruise in Southampton the next day, she said. The family went on a cruise to celebrate Jones’ mother’s birthday.
“I’ve been trying to get in touch with MSC since Monday, but I’ve got a headache,” Mcphee told Daily record. “He won’t call me back.”

MSC Euribia was scheduled to travel from Southampton to Amsterdam over several days, with stops in Denmark, Norway and Germany, according to the ship’s itinerary. The international cruise line said the ship was heading towards Germany when Jones fell into the sea.
“A passenger on board the MSC Euribia went overboard on March 16 while the ship was sailing to Hamburg. This has been reported to the relevant authorities,” said a spokesman for MSC Cruises. The Telegraph.
“Southampton Police boarded the vessel today and investigated on behalf of the coroner,” the statement said, according to the newspaper. “We are deeply saddened by this news and our thoughts are with the family at this very difficult time. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will refrain from releasing any further information.”

The incident prompted a response from Hampshire Constabulary, the paper reported, with a spokesman confirming that investigators had begun looking into Jones’ case.
“Officers boarded the ship today following reports that a man had gone overboard,” a police spokesman said. The Telegraph. “The man’s family have been informed and the police are investigating this on behalf of the coroner.”
