Cubs Manager Craig Counsell Credits Taylor Swift Candle for Team's Winning Streak

Taylor Swift is responsible for the success of a sports team — and it’s not the Kansas City Chiefs.

The singer, 34, who is currently dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 34, received praise from Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell for playing a role in the team’s new winning streak after winning five of its last six games.

Counsell, 54, hilariously described the streak as a direct result of his “Taylor Swift candle” while speaking with Marquee Sports Network in an interview published Tuesday, Aug. 27.

“I got a Taylor Swift candle as a gift and we lit it before the games in my office – clubhouse manager Danny Miller [and I]. We’ve been on a nice run here, so we’re going to give credit to Taylor Swift,” he said.

While Swift may be indirectly helping an MLB team, Chicago football fans may remember her first NFL game day appearance in support of Kelce at the Chiefs vs. Bears game on September 24, 2023.

Held at Arrowhead Stadium, the game ended in a 41-10 victory for the Chiefs over the Bears. The Chiefs would go on to win 10 of the 13 games the pop star attended, including the 2024 Super Bowl.

“I think it’s great that she’s a part of it,” he said. “It creates a buzz, it creates another group of young fans — especially young women — who are interested in asking, ‘Why is she going to this game?’ Why is she interested in this game?’ Besides Travis, she’s a soccer fan and I think that’s great for us.”

“When you say the relationship is public, it means I’m going to see him doing what he likes, we’re showing off to each other, other people are there and we don’t care,” she said. “The opposite of that is you have to go to extreme lengths to make sure no one knows you’re seeing someone. And we’re just proud of each other.”
