The father of cop Dale Cregan’s killer has died – a day before he was due to visit his son for the first time in six years.
Paul Cregan – also known as Paul Wilson – went into cardiac arrest while in a shop in Cheadle Heath, Stockport, Greater Manchester, yesterday morning.

A furniture maker was due to visit his cop-killing son for the first time in six years.
Cregan, 41, was sentenced to life in prison in 2013 for the September 2012 murder of police officers Fiona Bone, 32, and Nicole Hughes, 23.
He was also convicted of the murders of mob rival Mark Short, 23, who was shot dead in a pub in Droylsden in May 2012, and his father David Short, 46.
He is believed to be currently being held at Ashworth High Security Hospital.
A source said: “Cregan will be devastated. His mom and dad split up years ago, but even though Dale was very close to his mom, Anita, he always had a lot of respect for his dad.
“His father was very clear with him that what he did was wrong, but he still loved him. They hadn’t seen each other in years, but Dale was looking forward to his visit.”
After splitting with Dale’s mum Anita, Paul married a former Greater Manchester police officer named Debbie.
Cregan’s first taste of crime was when he started dealing drugs in high school, which has since been closed.
He then went to live in Tenerife with his sister for 18 months.
When he returned to the UK, Cregan began collecting firearms – including machine guns – and dealing cocaine.

Cregan, who is known as “One-Eye”, then went on a killing spree in 2012.
It is not known how Cregan lost his eye, but he now wears black glass as a replacement.
On September 18, 2012, officers Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes were sent to Abbey Gardens in Mottram, Longdendale, at around 11am after receiving reports of a burglary.
Officers received a hoax 999 call, made by Cregan, before rushing to the property.
When they arrived, 32 shots from a Glock pistol were fired at Bone and Hughes in 31 seconds.
An M75 grenade was also thrown in the savage murder of Bone and Hughes.
PC Andrew Summerscales was the first on the scene to find the bodies of his colleagues after the tragedy.
The officer sought counseling for the horrors he witnessed, but had to leave the force in November 2015.
Sadly, just one year later, Summerscales sent several goodbye messages and emails to his friends before taking his own life.
He was found dead near his home in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, on August 30.
After Cregan was arrested, police discovered he was also responsible for the murder of 23-year-old Mark Short.
Short was murdered in the Cotton Tree pub in Droylsden on 25 May 2012.
Cregan then killed Short’s father, David Short, 46, in a gun and grenade attack at his home in Clayton on August 10, 2012.
He was charged with four murders and four separate attempted murders – he was caged for life.
A timeline of the Cregan murders

May 2012 One-eyed Cregan shot dead gang rival Mark Short, 23, in a pub in Droylsden.
In August 2012, Cregan ambushed Mark’s father David Short at his home. He went on a rampage with guns and grenades, killing the 46-year-old.
September 2012 Sick and depraved Cregan made a hoax 999 call to lure two cops to an address in Mottram, Longdendale, Greater Manchester, before shooting them with 32 bullets in 31 seconds. He also fired a grenade at victims Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes during the September 2012 horror.
In February 2013, Cregan was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of four murders.
March 2019 Cregan’s brother Dean Moores is jailed for stabbing his sister’s ex-boyfriend.
May 2024 Cregan’s dad Paul Cregan died the day before he was to visit his son for the first time in six years.
In 2019, Cregan’s thug brother Dean Moores stabbed his sister’s ex-boyfriend.
Ryan Lever was stabbed in the leg after an argument as he left a shop in Rochdale.
Moores was sentenced to five years and five months in prison after admitting causing grievous bodily harm.
His mother Anita has previously said she is devastated that her two sons are in prison and claims Moores’ brutal attack was not premeditated.
She told the Sunday Mirror: “Dean often goes fishing and he had his fishing knife with him.
“He didn’t walk around with a knife. He immediately admitted his guilt. He was caught on camera arguing with Ryan.
“Dean is a family man. He is very sad that he ended up in prison.”
She added: “As a mother, it’s hard enough to have one son in prison and now I have another one in there. I’m devastated.
“They weren’t raised with guns and knives.”
You are not alone
EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide
It does not discriminate, it touches the lives of people in all corners of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and football players.
It is the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, deadlier than cancer and traffic accidents.
And men are three times more likely to take their own lives than women.
Yet it’s rarely talked about, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage if we don’t all stop and pay attention now.
That’s why The Sun launched the You Are Not Alone campaign.
The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all help save lives.
Let’s all pledge to ask for help when we need it, and listen to others… You are not alone.
If you or anyone you know needs help with mental health issues, the following organizations offer support:
