Dame Joan Collins Says She’s ‘Thrilled About the Challenge’ of Playing Wallis Simpson in Upcoming Biopic: ‘Iconic Woman’

Joan Collins, a longtime supporter of the British Monarchy, will star Wallis Simpson in the upcoming biography.

Collins, 91, will take over the role of Simpson, an American divorce that King Edward VIII chose over the monarchy, and that the throne in 1936 and eventually married next year. The two were married from 1937 to the end of Edward’s life in 1972; Simpson died in 1986. In 89 years.

According to GuardCollins will play Simpson in his last days in a movie currently entitled Bitter end (And previously known as In bed with the DuchessPerhaps the nomination of Simpson’s Duchess of Windsor after marriage to Edward, who after his distraught became a Duke of Windsor).

“I am delighted with the challenge of playing this iconic woman in a previously innumerable story,” Collins said.

The movie will be directed by Mike Newell (who has previously directed Four weddings and funeral) with a script written by Louise Fennell, the mother of Oscar’s writer and director Emerald Fennell.
