Damon Wayans Jr. Recalls Michael Jordan Living Next Door in the '90s — and Says the Superstar 'Never Wore Jordans!'

Damon Wayans Jr. shared funny memories of living next door to Michael Jordan in the 90s.

The actor and his dad Damon Wayans stopped by Show Jennifer Hudson on Tuesday, October 29, to discuss their new show, The Pope’s house. The CBS sitcom marks the first time the famous father and son duo have starred together.

But Hudson was just as interested to hear about the time NBA legend Michael Jordan moved into the family’s neighborhood years ago.

“When he shot Space Jamhe came and was our neighbor for the summer,” Damon Jr., 41, explained.

“First of all, this guy came too far,” he joked of Jordan. “I say, ‘Bro, do you have a movie to make or something?’ ”

Damon Jr., who was in his early teens around the time the 1996 comedy was filmed, joked that his dad would let Jordan come over and eat “all my snacks.”

“And he never wore Jordans,” he said Happy endings the star recalled, referring to Jordan’s signature Nike sneakers. “He’d just come in, like, some peeling old Jesus sandals.”

Damon Jr. described the NBA legend’s sandals as “John 3:16s” and “Air Apostles.”

“He’d yell at us in basketball,” added Damon Jr., “but he’d scratch the whole court with them Jesus [sandals]. And my dad wouldn’t let us clean it because it was, like, Jordanov scratches.”

Meanwhile, Hudson had to know if he would In vivid color Alumnus Damon Sr. would ever consider rebooting the classic ’90s sketch comedy created by brother Keenan Ivory Wayans.

“I would love to do that In vivid color,” said Damon Sr., though he noted that filming the entire series would be difficult given his starring role in Pope’s house. But, he said, “I mean to do In vivid color specialties would be great.”
