Dan + Shay's Dan Smyers Calls Wife Abby 'My Favorite Person in the World' as They Celebrate 7th Wedding Anniversary

Dan Smyers is celebrating a special milestone!

The singer, who is one half of the country music duo Dan + Shay, marked his seventh wedding anniversary with wife Abby Smyers on Monday, May 13, by giving her a sweet greeting on social media.

To mark the occasion, Abby posted a series of photos from the couple’s 2017 wedding on Instagram, along with the caption: “7 years. 👰🏻‍♀️🤵🏻‍♂️ The way I know we’ll always find each other. I love you so much. Happy anniversary, @dansmyers ♥️.”

Dan left her some love in the comments, writing: “I love you so much! And more with each passing year. I can’t believe it’s already 7. Happy anniversary to my favorite person in the world.”

“The dogs and I are so lucky to have you ❤️,” added the musician, referring to the animal-loving couple’s pups, who make a cameo in one of the wedding photos.

Dan and Abby — who got engaged in November 2016 on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii — tied the knot at sunset in their hometown of Nashville, which they told PEOPLE at the time was their “favorite place in the world.”

“It’s going to be great to have all our friends and family together in Nashville — a lot of them have never been here,” Dan said ahead of the big day. “We built our love story in Nashville and it will be cool to bring everyone there to see where it all started for us.”

In September 2023, Dan and bandmate Shay Mooney opened up about how their wives had been a “lifeline” for them when their professional partnership — and friendship — had been on the verge of breaking up two years earlier. .

“We have great families. We are so happy. There are so many people who would kill to be in our shoes, and that’s something we don’t want to take for granted,” Dan — who almost decided to quit the music industry after facing extreme burnout — told PEOPLE. “I think Abby gave me a great perspective and inspired me to enjoy driving a little more.”

Mooney, 32, shares a similar sentiment about his wife, Hannah Mooney.

“She’s a real angel, my wife, she’s been my lifeline through all of this,” Shay said. “It’s not easy to sit and watch the person you love destroy themselves by eating and drinking too much.”

Dan noted how he was able to lean on Abby as he struggled with his future in music.

“She continues to save my life every day, honestly. I can’t say enough good things. She just has a different outlook on life than I do,” he told PEOPLE. “I feel like I’m a natural pessimist. I’ll see a spot in the grass that doesn’t look good. She’ll say, ‘But look at all that green grass.’ She only sees hope and positivity and happiness and optimism and everything.”

He credits his wife for helping him get through times when he feels stressed and overwhelmed.

“If I start complaining or spiraling, she’ll say, ‘Okay, let’s stop for a second. Take a deep breath. Let’s discuss the situation,’ he explained. ‘She helped me in dark moments when I was sad. Who knows? I may have stopped music or moved back to my hometown, but she will just answer me and calm me down.”
