Daniel Craig Teases the Next James Bond 'Might Be in This Room' at 2024 Governors Awards

Daniel Craig teases Bond fans!

On Sunday, November 17, the actor, 56, attended the 15th Governors Awards at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles and hinted that the next James Bond “could be” in the room.

“Let’s just get something out of the way,” Craig said as he introduced Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who were honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.

“If you came here tonight to find out who the next James Bond is, don’t look at me, but he might be in the room. Just kidding. Maybe I’m not,” he added.

Craig, who played Bond Casino Royale (2006), A quantum of comfort (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectrum (2015) and No time to die (2021), revealed earlier this month that he doesn’t care who plays the next Bond, while speaking to Diversity.

The producers behind the franchise are also still working on creating a new future for the world’s most famous spy.

Speaking to The Associated Press ahead of the awards, Wilson, 82, and Broccoli, 64, said casting the new Bond was a “big decision”.

“Every time we hire a new actor, the films change. It’s the excitement of a new Bond, a new direction,” added Wilson. “Each of these people who have taken on the role has offered something new and different.”

As usual, there will be no shortage of willing candidates. At the beginning of the evening, actor Colman Domingo jokingly offered Broccoli and Wilson the role. “I know there is a list of phenomenal, handsome, athletic, polished and honest actors vying to be the next James Bond,” Domingo said.

“Now if you’re thinking of me, I don’t know what to say: Bond or Bond villain? You decide… I’ll leave my headshots on your desk,” he added.

On Sunday, siblings Broccoli and Wilson, who run the production company behind the decades-old British spy franchise, accepted the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award.

The award is presented annually to “creative producers whose body of work reflects a consistently high quality of film production,” according to a June 12 announcement by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The award has been awarded only 39 times since it was established in 1939, according to AP. Broccoli is also only the second woman to receive this special award, after Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy received it in 2018.

“It’s very humbling,” Broccoli told the AP of the honor. “I think of so many people who came before us, so many people who I wish had received this honor, who are no longer with us.”

Broccoli also stated that her father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, received the same award at the 1982 Academy Awards, stating that his Oscar statuette was “the most important physical possession he had.”
