Daniel Levi, a French singer, died on Saturday, August 6, at the age of 60 after a long battle with cancer. Daniel Levi was born in Constantine, Algeria on August 26, 1961. Sandrine Aboukrat, Levi’s wife, took to Instagram on Saturday to post a monochrome photo of the late singer with details from the funeral:

Daniel Levi was the seventh child in a family of seven. He started his musical career in the 1980s, after spending 10 years playing the piano, and in 1983 he released his debut album Cocktail, which was not a commercial success. Later, Levi worked with various musical icons, including Gloria Gaynor, who invited him to join her on the first leg of her European tour, and Michel Legrand, who offered him the opportunity to record songs for the 1985 film Parking, directed by Jacques Demy. .
Sand and the Romantics, written by Catherine Lara and Luc Plamondon, was Levi’s debut musical production in 1991. There he portrayed d’Alfred de Musset and Frédéric Chopin. Levi sang Ce rêve bleu for the Disney animated series Aladdin two years later in 1993. That song, a duet with Karina Costa, catapulted him to stardom.
In 2000, he appeared in the musical comedy The Ten Commandments by Pascal Obispo and Élie Chouraqui. In it, he portrayed Mose and won praise for the musical’s signature tune, The Desire to Love. According to Universal Music France, the musical was a huge success for several weeks at the Palais des Sports, and the record sold 1.3 million copies.
As he continued his solo career after his time in The Ten Commandments, Levi wrote songs that were a mixture of soul music, jazz and French variety. Before his death, he released six solo albums. In 2019, he discovered that he had colon cancer.
