Spotify Obscurity Rating: How To See How Obscure Your Music Tastes Are

One of the best things about Spotify is its endless social features, and with the help of a third-party site called “Obscurify,” you can get an obscure rating on how niche/mainstream your listening habits are. While Spotify remains the undisputed champion in music streaming, competition is fiercer than ever today. Apple Music, Amazon Music, Tidal, and other services get better and better over time. So choosing Spotify over one of its many competitors is no longer the clear-cut decision it once was.

While competitors are getting better at everything, Spotify still dominates with its social features. At the end of each year, Spotify Wrapped provides users with a detailed breakdown of their listening habits throughout the year and makes it easy for users to share these statistics on social media. Spotify is also launching a “Mix” feature in 2021, allowing two friends to combine their favorite songs into a mixed playlist. Combine that with its deep integration with third-party services like Discord, and it’s easy to see why Spotify’s social features are so important to some.

When it comes to third-party integrations, one of Spotify’s neat tricks comes from a website called “Obscurify.” Founded in 2020 by Alex Olivero and Nirmal Patel, Obscurify is a third-party website that analyzes your Spotify playlists, sees the songs added to them, and gives you an Obscurity rating that shows how obscure your music selections are. /Basic.

Obscurify starts by showing users their top 10 favorite genres. Clicking/clicking on a genre will reveal the three artists most responsible for it. Just below that, Obscurify also shows users their top artists and songs of all time. The page initially displays your top 12 artists/songs, but you can select the “Show more” button to view up to 50 of your top picks. The section below has a “Share with Friends” button that allows you to share your Obscurify profile on social media. At the bottom of the page are Obscruify’s music recommendations based on your musical taste. this is all!
