Daniel Radcliffe to Executive Produce Coming-of-Age Film About His Harry Potter Stunt Double

Daniel Radcliffe speaks Harry Potterstory in a new way.

The actor (34) will step behind the camera to revisit Hogwarts from the point of view of his double, David Holmes.

According to Deadline , Holmes was left paralyzed from the chest down with a debilitating spinal injury after an explosion on set during filming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 sent him plummeting to the ground. His story will be told through an HBO Original documentary David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived.

The actors of ‘Harry Potter’: Where are they now?

HBO announced on Tuesday that the film was produced in association with SKY and was executive produced by Radcliffe and directed by Dan Hartley.

A press release for the film noted that Holmes became “the greatest source of strength and inspiration” for Radcliffe and the rest of the stunt team. The statement describes the documentary as a “coming of age story” that begins with Holmes’ time as a skilled teenage gymnast in Essex, England.

The documentary promises to feature “candid personal footage taken over the last decade, behind-the-scenes footage of Holmes’ stunt work, scenes from his current life and intimate interviews with David, Daniel Radcliffe, friends, family and former crew.”

Holmes shared a post on Instagram following HBO’s announcement that the documentary took “four years of hard work” and described his work with the beloved franchise as “the best job in the world.”

“I can only live because of the united love and support that I was lucky to have. And because of that love and support, I can share my journey with all of you,” he added.

Radcliffe spoke about his friendship with Holmes in a previous interview with Daily Mirror.

“I have a relationship that goes back many, many years with Dave,” he said in 2017. “And I wouldn’t want people to see me and Dave and go, ‘oh, there’s Daniel Radcliffe with a person in a wheelchair’ — because never, even I wouldn’t want them to assume for a second that Dave was anything but an incredibly important person in my life.”

The two started working together again in 2020. with the Holmes podcast series Tricky stunts.

Premiere of David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived on HBO on November 15 at 9pm and will be available to stream on Max.
