Danielle Jonas Says Daughters ‘Rule the Backstage’ When Joining Dad Kevin on Tour: ‘They Have Fun’ (Exclusive)

Danielle Jonas’ daughters are already pros at life on the road.

While talking to PEOPLE about her recent collaborations with Sanofi and Regeneron, Co. founder and designer Danielle Jonas, 37, opened up about her daughters’ experience on tour with dad Kevin Jonas, who is currently on tour with his band, the Jonas Brothers. The couple, who got married in 2009, have daughters Alena (9) and Valentina (7).

“I think they’re very proud of them,” Danielle says of her two daughters’ admiration for their dad and uncles. “And my only daughter, Valentina, she kind of understands what’s going on, but not really. So she gets nervous about them, but then she’s so excited to see them on stage.”

“And then she says, ‘Well, does Uncle Nick know [Jonas] he loves me and he loves uncle joe [Jonas] love me?’ And it’s like, because there are so many fans screaming at them, and she’s like, ‘Well, they’re mine,'” the proud mom laughs.

“Then Alena is done, she’s excited about it and now she wants to bring her friends. And so it’s fun to see how they react to that.”

When they join their dad on tour, Alena and Valentina get an exciting opportunity to go behind the scenes. “They rule the backstage,” says Danielle. “Soon all the kids will rule together, and then the boys will just have to deal with it.”

As for their favorite part of touring, the mum-of-two says she thinks “they just love to travel, to be honest”.

“I’ve always been nervous traveling with them because I’ve always been afraid, oh, their ears are going to explode on the plane… But they absolutely love being in different places and seeing cities and then even though they’re late shows, they want to be there. So they they entertain.”

While their father’s concerts are the highlight of the tour, there were some other special moments that the two Jonas girls experienced while on the road.

“Valentina lost a tooth, her first tooth, on tour,” reveals Danielle, noting that the Tooth Fairy still managed to make a special visit, despite the distance from home. “Now we have to make sure we have all the supplies for it.”

Alena has also adjusted her sense of style, no longer letting her mom choose her clothes. “She just changes a lot…dresses herself. She has her own style and all that stuff, and it’s like, okay, I have to back off. I can’t dress her anymore.”

With the holiday season fast approaching, Danielle says her family has already gotten into the Christmas spirit. “We’re just decorating for Christmas, so they’re excited,” she says of her daughters. “We’re doing it a little early because we’re going to be with the Jonas family for Thanksgiving, so we’re doing it sooner, and they can’t wait to make the cookies.”

Sanofi and Regeneron

Danielle is partnering with Sanofi and Regeneron to share her experience with eczema – a disease she says has plagued her for years. “I gave birth to a child and I started to feel certain symptoms and I was looking for something that would alleviate these symptoms, which were burning and unpleasant itching on the scalp and the like,” explains the jewelry designer.

When she sought a diagnosis, she was told she had eczema. “Then she told me about Dupixent, which was also called Dupilumab, and I started trying it because nothing I could get on prescription was helping,” Danielle says.

“I got my life back with it because I was trying to stay home and everything because I was losing my hair, whether it was from that or something else, but the itching and the discomfort… I wanted to stay home because I wasn’t feeling myself and I tried to get out of things. ”

Along with Sanofi and Regeneron, Danielle is partnered with Dr. Annabelle Garcia, a San Antonio dermatologist. “There are so many people in the U.S. living with eczema, and Dupixent, we’re lucky that it’s approved for moderate to severe eczema in patients over six months old. And it works by targeting that underlying inflammation that can be at the root of eczema,” explains Dr. Garcia.

Because Dupixent can be used on children, Danielle says she was relieved knowing she had an option for her daughter. “Valentina was dealing with a little eczema and stuff, and I kind of knew in the back of my mind that she would be able to have something to help her because this medicine is six months and older.”

Now that she’s feeling better, the proud mom can spend more time with her kids, including taking her daughter trick-or-treating on Halloween.

“They were able to celebrate,” Danielle says, saying her girls chose very different costumes. “Valentina always chooses unconventional things, which I love. She was Stitch, and then Alena was a 50s girl, so she had a dress with a poodle on it and that was cute.”
