From 2007 to 2014, Newman was the host, writer, editor and producer of Equitrekking. She created the first television series to tour the world on horseback, making horse travel a global craze. In a 2017 interview with Paste Travel, she said, “While working in TV in NYC and writing about horseback riding around the world, I knew the concept of Equitrekking would make a great series, and Equitrekking was born.”
Equitrekking is a two-time Emmy Award-winning public television travel program that debuted in 2007 on PBS. The program takes viewers on horseback riding and active trips with local people around the world to learn about history, culture and the environment. The series is also broadcast on the public television lifestyle channel, Create TV, as well as on global networks in more than 82 countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, France, Japan and Russia.

Newman filed a lawsuit against her ex-husband on April 4, 2020, for five domain names: darleynewman.com, darleynewman.org, equitrekking.com, equitrekking.org and travelswithdarley.com. Ward has no rights or legitimate interests in the domain names, according to Newman, and they should be turned over to her as part of the divorce settlement. Ward then countered that he was still the owner and had never worked for DCN. He also said that he or his organization, Lambda, owned the domain names he registered. Newman’s lawsuit, however, was dismissed in a ruling issued on July 7, 2020.
