Dave Grohl shares three daughters with his wife Jordyn Blum, and he became a father for the fourth time in September 2024 with another woman.
The former Nirvana drummer and Blum married at their Los Angeles home on August 2, 2003. It was the first marriage for Blum and the second for Grohl, who split from photographer Jennifer Youngblood in 1997.
Three years later, the couple’s first daughter, Violet Maye (18), was born, followed by Harper Willow (15) in 2009 and Ophelia Saint (10) in 2014. In September 2024, Grohl had a fourth daughter with a woman outside his marriage, he shared in a post on Instagram.
In the 2009 edition of TIME magazine’s “10 Questions” column, the Foo Fighters founder revealed how fatherhood has profoundly changed his life and business. “I toured nine months out of the year,” he said. “Now I don’t like to be away from my kids for more than 12 days. It’s changed everything I do. When you have kids, you see life through different eyes. You feel love more deeply and maybe you’re a little more compassionate. It’s inevitable that that will come through in your songwriting .”
Grohl’s three older children seem to have inherited the drummer’s musical talent, and daughters Violet and Harper even joined him on stage for the performance. In February 2023, Grohl, Blum and their daughters attended the Grammy Awards together.
Here’s everything you need to know about Dave Grohl’s kids.

Grohl and Blum welcomed their first daughter, Violet Maye, on April 15, 2006, in Los Angeles. She was named after the singer’s grandmother on her mother’s side, and her rocker dad described her as “absolutely perfect”.
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins first revealed the couple were expecting in an MTV interview in early 2006. “We’re going on tour in Europe in January and February, but we have to be home by March because Dave and his wife are having a baby,” Hawkins said and added, “but I probably shouldn’t have told you that.”
In 2007, Grohl told PEOPLE how fatherhood had changed him. “We don’t talk about how much we drank last night [anymore],” he said.”[Now] how much we slept, how much the baby slept, diaper rash, formula milk. We went on a trip for three months. It’s hard for me to leave even for 12 days. I realized that the life I had always imagined starting after the band broke up had to start now.”
In the same interview, he shared Violeta’s love for music. “Violet loves an Amy Winehouse album,” he revealed. “It’s all about the song ‘Rehab.’ If she hears, ‘Try to make me go to rehab,’ Violet will say, ‘No no no.’ I know, it’s a little weird, but it’s really cute!”
As a teenager, Violet followed in her father’s footsteps as a musician and recorded several songs.
In 2018, Violet joined her father on stage to cover Adele’s “When We Were Young” at a benefit show at the Fox Theater in Oakland for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals when she was just 12 years old.
After performing acoustic renditions of seminal Foos songs including “My Hero,” “Everlong” and “Times Like These,” Grohl brought his oldest daughter onstage to perform the song.
“I remember her saying, ‘Dad, you’re not even the best singer in the family,'” Grohl told the crowd beforehand. – And he is right!
In April 2021, Grohl and Violet released a cover of Los Angeles punk band X’s 1980 anthem “Nausea.” Grohl opened up about the collaboration during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The musician told host Jimmy Kimmel that he initially asked Violet to cover the song with him after learning she was distantly related to Xa drummer DJ Bonebrake.
“This is the first time she and I have filmed together, just the two of us,” he said. “I’m so proud of it because I love her so much and she’s an amazing singer, but it kind of follows this lineage and family history from this guy in Switzerland to my daughter Violet. This Bonebrake family tree means a lot to me.”
In June 2023, Violet and her father performed “Show Me How” at Glastonbury Festival 2023. As she walked on stage, Grohl called Violet his “favorite singer in the world”. Later he yelled, “That’s my girl!” when they finished the song.

In October 2008, Grohl’s representative revealed that the couple were expecting their second child together. On April 17, 2009, they had a daughter, Harper Willow, who was named after Grohl’s great-uncle Harper Bonebrake.
In his memoirs from 2021. NarratorGrohl described how Paul McCartney gave Harper her first piano lesson when she was 5 years old.
“We’re having wine and pizza and hanging out, and it was time for Paul to go,” Grohl summed up The Graham Norton Show back in October 2021 “Paul i [his wife] Nancy was leaving, and there was a piano in the corner of the room, and he just can’t help himself.”
“So he sits down at the piano and starts playing ‘Lady Madonna’ in my fucking house!” the musician recalled. “I’m horrified. I can’t believe this is happening. This is the craziest moment of my entire life.”
Grohl added, “[Harper had] he had never taken any instrument lessons at that moment, so she sat down and watched his hands. They sat together and he showed her what to play and they wrote a song together.”
Harper later showed off her musical skills during a benefit concert in 2018. She joined her dad and older sister Violet on stage, playing drums as they sang an acoustic rendition of “The Sky Is a Neighborhood.” Finally, the sisters took center stage, with Violet singing Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” accompanied by Harper on drums.

The Foo Fighters frontman revealed he and his wife are expecting their third child at the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony when he posed with his hand on Blum’s baby bump. Their youngest daughter, Ophelia Saint, was born on August 1, 2014.
In October 2019, Grohl made a special cameo appearance on Nick Jr.’s preschool series Ryan’s Mystery Playdatein an episode called “Ryan’s Legendary Playdate”. A then-five-year-old Ophelia appeared in the episode along with her dad for a jam session, and the two had a lot of fun!
“My daughter watches the show all the time,” Grohl told PEOPLE, “so it’s like meeting a real rock star. I’m not the rock star here. Ryan is.”
Ophelia played Fifi, a “Ryan Superfan”, who joined Ryan and the group for a jam session. “Are you ready to rock?” Ryan asked her during the episode, to which Fifi replied, “I’m always ready to rock!”
Dave Grohl’s fourth daughter
The drummer announced that he welcomed his fourth child, a girl, in September 2024 in an Instagram post — not with Blum, though.
“I recently became the father of a new daughter, born out of wedlock,” he wrote. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”
Grohl added that he is working with his wife and daughters to earn their forgiveness for his infidelity.
“I love my wife and my children and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness,” he wrote. “We are grateful for your consideration for all the children involved, as we move forward together.”
