David Beckham Says Longtime Friend Gordon Ramsay Has Only Cooked for Him 'One Time in 22 Years' (Exclusive)

David Beckham and Gordon Ramsay spent a lot of time together – just not in the kitchen.

“We’ve been friends for about 22 years, and he cooked for me once. Once in 22 years!” David, 49, told PEOPLE while attending Stella Artois’ Let’s Do Dinner in New York.

A global ambassador for Stella Artois helped celebrate an evening full of “Worth More” moments in line with the brand’s latest campaign. For an athlete, this means creating a “real connection” through food.

“That’s why I like to cook. That’s why I like to eat. That’s why I always like to grill for the family because it really brings us together. Our family has always been a family that sits down at six o’clock every night — when we’re all in the same country,” he says.

“We’ve always had a Sunday roast on Sundays. I think that’s why I like cooking so much because I like to make my family happy and I think they like my cooking.”

Beckham and his wife Victoria Beckham have four children – Brooklyn Beckham (25), Romeo Beckham (22), Cruz Beckham (19) and Harper Beckham (13).

Despite his own penchant for cooking, the former football pro noted that it was none other than Ramsay, 57, who helped one of his boys learn how to cook a wicked dish.

“One of my sons is obsessed with beef Wellington — Gordon is famous for beef Wellington — and he taught my son how to make it himself,” David says of one time he ate Ramsay’s food. “So he didn’t actually cook for us, but we ended up eating anyway.”

Beckham also recalls his time with Ramsay “a few years ago, when we were in LA, I went to one of his shows and we had a cooking party, which he obviously won,” he says with a laugh.

“I think he was honestly cheating. He said it was allowed to add one ingredient at the end, but it had to be a surprise. So I said, ‘Okay, I’ll just add something.’ I don’t know what it was, but he brought out a fresh lobster,” adds David. – He got away with it!

Ramsay talked about their friendship with PEOPLE for its cover story in 2023. “David, Victoria and the kids are just as normal as Tana and I,” he said. “Down-to-earth, hard-working and incredible foodies.”
