Although it “was an overall wonderful experience,” according to actor David Gridley, being in his first Hallmark film “was not without its challenges.” The Hallmark rookie experienced severe food poisoning on the first day of filming “Love in Zion National: A National Park Romance” with Cindy Busby, which will air on May 20, 2023. He also coped with adverse weather conditions and got lost in the park, he disclosed in a new interview.
Since the role entailed travelling at high altitudes in Utah’s Zion National Park, noted for its canyons and cliffs, Gridley told Just Jared that he prepared in part by completing hiking workouts. According to Hallmark, Gridley was playing a “native Puebloan park ranger park ranger” named Adam. But nothing could have prepared him for the obstacles he ultimately encountered. Gridley claimed that instead of making a positive impression on his first day of filming “Love in Zion National,” he ended up “trying to survive.”
“One of the big challenges off the bat was that I actually got food poisoning the first night, which was gnarly,” he admitted to Just Jared. “The first day of shooting, I’m just like trying to survive,” he said, “and put on a (good) face because the night before I was sick all night.”
That was, “that was a unique challenge, and was probably the hardest day on set,” Gridley said. I believe we started with 10 pages, so there was a lot of speech and I was just trying to get through it.
After Gridley had fully recovered, he noticed how well-prepared his co-star Cindy Busby had been for shooting outside. The actress has also acted in Hallmark films with a natural theme, such as “Chasing Waterfalls” from 2021 and “Love in Yosemite” from 2022.
He said, “She’s the best. “Cindy is such a professional and a great influence. She simply always has the ability to be ready to assist with whatever.
He claimed that this included remembering to bring the snacks she shared on the set and even cutlery. On May 18, Busby remarked during a Facebook Live session that she has learnt how to be ready for anything in the outdoors.
She remarked, “I always travel with water, food, and sometimes some sunscreen. I make sure that I have a lot of water. Perhaps even more socks!”
