David Harbour Says He Is ‘Thrilled’ to Return to Stranger Things: ‘I’m Ready to Work’ (Exclusive)

David Harbor is ready to return to Hawkins!

While attending the BoxLunch Holiday Gala, an event honoring Feeding America, in Los Angeles earlier this week, the 48-year-old actor told PEOPLE he’s “thrilled” to begin work on Stranger Things again now that the SAG-AFTRA strike is over.

Harbour, who portrays Jim Hopper in the hit Netflix series, says he will return to Stranger Things the saddle starts on monday.

“I mean, I don’t know if we’ll be filming next week, but yeah, as soon as possible,” he told PEOPLE, adding that he heard from the show’s hosts right after news of the strike ending hit social media.

“I literally got a call, I think it was 10 minutes after SAG on Twitter,” he explained. “The first AD [assistant director] is like, ‘So find yourself a flight on Monday, right?’ We’re going to play in Atlanta.’”

The Gran Turismo the actor added that he is excited to begin work on the highly anticipated fifth and final season of the show.

“I’m delighted with it. I am ready to work – he said. “I mean, there are other people who might not, but I’m thrilled.”

Harbor also gave an insight into what his life was like amid the historic strike.

“I mean, you have to ask my wife [Lily Allen], because I was sitting on the couch depressed as hell. It was bad,” he told PEOPLE.

He continued: “I mean, it’s like what happened to me in the same way in COVID where you’re like, ‘Oh, now I kind of have all this time,’ and then you’re just checking your Google alerts every five minutes and they’re just neurotic unsure. So I didn’t do anything.”

“I mean, maybe I’ve read half a book, watched a bunch of TV, and now I’m really excited to be back,” he added.

At the BoxLunch charity event, Harbor — a giving ambassador for the brand — also spoke to PEOPLE about her relationship with Allen, 38.

The actor has been open about how his relationship with the musician has been affected by the actors’ strike, saying: “Ultimately, it’s really good because you get to know someone.”

“But let me tell you, my wife likes it when I go to work because she likes that I have my own life and that I have my own life and that we don’t annoy each other by being around all the time.” A violent night star, who married Allen in 2020, said.

“We have these two kids, and it’s so great,” added Harbour, referring to his stepsons, Allen’s daughters Ethel, 11, and Marnie, 10, with ex-husband Sam Cooper. “We have to raise them and all that, and as our marriage goes on, we get closer and closer.”

Since the WGA strike (which began months before SAG-AFTRA) halted production of the hit series’ final season in May, Harbor and his Stranger Things The cast hasn’t talked much about the show – with the exception of star Millie Bobby Brown.

In October, the 19-year-old actress – who was just 12 when the show aired in 2016 – told Glamour that she is “ready” to leave Hawkins forever.

“When you’re ready, you say, ‘Okay, let’s do it. Let’s tackle this last senior year. Let’s get out of here,’ she told the newspaper.

“Stranger things it takes a lot of time to shoot and prevents me from creating the stories I’m passionate about,” she continued. “So I’m ready to say, ‘Thank you and goodbye.'”
