But away from his blockbuster career, the actor relaxes at home with his family and takes on the role of husband and father. The actor revealed in an interview with The Guardian that he and his wife had been together for a long time and that one of her best qualities was her ability to keep him grounded. Due to the couple’s well-known secrecy regarding their personal lives, it is not known how they met. However, reports indicate that the couple was in a relationship for several years before the wedding. They held an intimate ceremony at Stanford House in St. James, surrounded by his daughters.
As Daily Mail reports, the actor and his wife seemed happy and relaxed on the eve of their wedding anniversary. They spent the day at the beach, frolicking, having fun and doing some PDA.

In the aforementioned interview, the actor also talked about fatherhood and his family. Harewood said he considered himself lucky to have a family, as it gave him perspective. When asked about fatherhood, the Homeland actor said that it was his joy and that he tried to be as close as possible to his children when he was at home. However, as a father of two daughters, he was not looking forward to the ten-year challenges ahead of him.
“I have to admit. As an ex-boyfriend, I understand how guys think.” He stated. He added that he will make sure that his daughters understand how the other gender thinks and that he will try to be present. As for the family values he passed on to his children, Harewood revealed that he and his wife did not spoil their daughters. David Harewood’s Mental Health
As a devoted family man, the actor is also honest about his life with his wife and children, especially at the time when he experienced a mental breakdown. According to The Telegraph, the actor suffered a mental breakdown after graduating from drama school at the age of 23. Harewood was not hallucinating; rather, he heard voices directing him to perform actions such as pretending to be Martin Luther King.
He was instructed to “go to Camden, walk into a shop at 3am, find a suit and save the lives of millions of people” during that episode. And he did as instructed, but the shop was, of course, closed. His friends eventually intervened and escorted him to Whittington Hospital after he informed them that he “had three brains in his head and was dying”. He spent the next three months recovering. Harewood has been symptom-free since recovering, but continues to see a therapist regularly to manage his illness.
