David Lynch’s Wife Emily Stofle Files for Divorce After 14 Years of Marriage

David Lynch and Emily Stofle call it quits.

Stofle, 46, filed for divorce from Mulholland Drive director, 77, after 14 years of marriage, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

In the filing, the actress requested sole legal and physical custody of their 11-year-old daughter Lula Boginia. Stofle is asking that Lynch have visitation rights. He is also seeking spousal support and attorney fees.

TMZ first broke the news.

Representatives for Lynch did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. The former couple married on February 26, 2009. The couple were working together when Stofle appeared in Lynch’s feature film, inner realm, and limited series, Twin Peaks: The Return.

Lynch admitted in a 2018 interview Guard that he was inclined to prioritize his work over his personal life.

“You have to be selfish. And that’s a terrible thing. I never really wanted to get married, I never wanted to have kids. One thing leads to another and that’s it.” He added: “I did what I had to do. It could have been more work. There are always so many interruptions.”

Stofle said with his memoir co-author, Kristine McKenna, that Lynch shared his priorities with her in the run-up to the birth of their daughter. “After I had Lulu, he disappeared into his work, and that’s what he does… he works and that’s where he finds his joy,” McKenni said, per Guard.

The director was married three times before his marriage to Stofle. He was married to Peggy Lynch from 1967 to 1974, to Mary Fisk from 1977 to 1987, and to Mary Sweeney from 2006 to 2007. Lynch was also previously linked to Isabella Rossellini in the late 1980s and early 1990s. .

In addition to Lula, the Oscar nominee has a daughter Jennifer (55) with his first wife Peggy, a son Austin (41) with his second wife Mary and a son Riley (31) with his third wife Mary Sweeney.
