David Quantick News

What happens when you repeatedly mentioning a book that everyone appears to enjoy but that no one else can remember? Is there a method to profit from the circumstance? These are the central concerns of David Quantick’s latest book, All My Colours, which was inspired by his work on Veep.

Described by the publisher as “the intersection of Richard Bachman, Charlie Kaufman, and Franz Kafka,” All My Colours tells the tale of Todd Milstead, a wannabe author and outright jerk with one special party trick:

Because of his eidetic recall, he is able to precisely recite any book he has ever read, including All My Colours, which no one else has ever heard of. Todd will not be the only one to suffer the consequences of his decision to attempt to make his fortune by “writing” the book under his own name.

Quantick has had a fascinating career in addition to his Emmy-winning work on HBO’s Veep. He has written extensively for British television and radio as a former NME critic and writer, including a long-running partnership with Chris Morris on On the Hour, The Day Today, Brass Eye, and Jam.

One of the first television programmes made specifically for online distribution was Junkies, which Quantick co-created with writing partner Jane Bussman in 2000. He has also written biographies of Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, and Chris Rock, as well as the books How to Write Everything and How to Be a Writer and the 2014 comic book That’s Because You’re a Robot for Image Comics.
