“Recently there have been challenges from a low point in my past that have been brought up and seriously misconstrued,” he asserted. “The allegations are simply not true as I have never inappropriately raised my hands on another person or treated an ex-girlfriend in any of the ways that I have been portrayed.”

“That ban was never granted, it was completely dismissed. My ex-girlfriend from college and I eventually reconciled and ended our relationship on good terms. This was the first time I fell in love and I learned a lot from our relationship. .It was a growing experience for both of us.” [Editor’s note: A judge granted a temporary restraining order against Strader in March 2017, which was later extended by one month to April 2017. A permanent restraining order was never granted because his ex-girlfriend voluntarily dismissed the request.]

On Monday, Sept. 16, PEOPLE obtained a protection-from-abuse petition dated March 22, 2017, from a woman who named Strader as a defendant in her filing. She claimed that on March 19, 2017, shortly after the two “broke up,” she returned home after being out of town “to find her room broken into” and an item missing. (Reality Steve first broke the news.)

Explaining that Strader, who got engaged to a recent Bachelor Jenn and later broke up, never having a key or “unescorted access” to their apartment while they were together or after, the woman told police he lived just two doors down from her. The affidavit said the woman’s room was the only part of the house “that appeared to have been ransacked,” and a jewelry box was reportedly ransacked.

Police said in an affidavit that “a perfume bottle was broken, a makeup tray was thrown, and a diamond necklace was stolen during the burglary.” The necklace was allegedly bought by Strader while the two were in a relationship.

The woman then filed for a temporary restraining order against Strader, but said in a police report that after he violated it “numerous times,” he lit a fire on the street near her home and burned “what appeared to be an actual restraining order.”

A proof-of-conditions document shows Strader was later charged with misdemeanor trespassing, ordered to pay $500, perform 30 hours of community service and attend “Court School of Effective Decision Making.”

According to a close source Bachelor franchise, the show takes contestant “safety” “very seriously” and they “make every effort to conduct thorough due diligence.” The source also told PEOPLE that the protective order against Strader “didn’t come up” in any background searches despite their “exhaustive vetting process.”
