Da’Vine Joy Randolph Says She Plans to ‘Stay Present’ and ‘Hydrated’ Ahead of the 2024 Oscars (Exclusive)

Da’Vine Joy Randolph describes her day by day in the run-up to one of the biggest nights of her career.

In an exclusive interview for PEOPLE’s annual Oscar portfolio, the 37-year-old actress talks about her regimen ahead of the 2024 Oscars, for which she is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her acclaimed role in The Holdovers.

“It really comes down to taking care of yourself. These six months are a marathon. Surreal,” says Randolph. “I feel like I’m in the Navy or the Marines, I’ve never experienced anything [like this].”

Stressing that she is now in “uncharted territory”, the star adds: “Everyone is just saying take it easy, try to stay present, stay hydrated and take good care of yourself because this is a marathon.”

IN The HoldoversRandolph stars as Mary Lamb, a grieving mother and school cook staying at a New England boarding school during the 1970 Christmas holidays.

She has already won multiple accolades for the role, including the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards in January.

Other nominees in the Best Supporting Actress category at this year’s Oscars include Emily Blunt for Oppenheimer, Danielle Brooks for Purple, America Ferrera for Barbie and Jodie Foster for Nyad.

The Holdoversmeanwhile, it earned a total of five nominations, including Best Picture.

Speaking candidly about her own Oscar nomination, Randolph tells PEOPLE, “I was blown away.”

“I haven’t fully processed it, but it was overwhelming in the best possible way,” she continues when told of her nod. “And to feel all the love and support was so amazing.”

“I think it’s just a wonderful reminder. It’s bigger than us. What we do is actually very important, it helps people and makes them happy or makes them seen or heard,” adds Randolph. – That’s why I do what I do.

The 96th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be broadcast live on Sunday, March 10, from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California, beginning at 7:00 PM ET.
