The 2024 Critics Choice Awards have revealed this year’s nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture.
Da’Vine Joy Randolph won an award for her role as Mary Lamb in The Holdovers, continuing her winning streak from the Golden Globes 2024. In her speech, she decided to take some time to thank the powerful women who helped her get to where she is today.
“To play a woman who is so many things, to see myself as a gift… I want to take a moment to thank the amazing woman in my life who made me the artist I am today,” she said on stage.
“I thank my mother for teaching me that hard work and persistence pay off,” she continued. “My Aunt Shirley for teaching me how to be awesome… My Aunt Gwenny for teaching me how to tell the perfect joke. Thank you to the teachers who have guided me through the years and especially to the women in the industry who have supported me fiercely. Thank you so much!”
Other actresses in competition for the award were Emily Blunt for OppenheimerDanielle Brooks for PurpleAmerica Ferrera for BarbieJodie Foster for Nyad and Julianne Moore for May December.

With a Golden Globe under her belt, Randolph, 37, continues to receive her flowers for her work as Mary Lamb in The Holdovers. A cook and grieving mother who works at Barton Academy, Mary is one of the few who stays at the New England boarding school during the holiday season. Opposite fellow nominees Paolo Giamatti and Dominic Sessa, Randolph delivers one of the most acclaimed performances of the year.
“I’m grateful,” she said about this moment in her career. “Every time I think I’m in control and try to do something, it doesn’t work. My resume doesn’t have anything I was looking for. Nothing… Life is life, and it’s like, ‘No, you’re not going to be in control.’ ”

She continued: “I’m just free. Now I’m like, ‘Okay, let’s go. Wherever you see me next.’ When [The Holdovers] came up to me, I said, ‘Okay, this is where we’re going next.'”
That, Randolph added, is her advice for fellow aspiring artists. “Just go ahead and explore,” she said. “Because they will find you.”
The Just the murders in the building the actress was nominated for the Critics Choice Awards for the first time. The Holdovers has a total of eight nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Giamatti, and Best Young Actor/Actress for Sessa.
