Dax Shepard Tells Goldie Hawn About His ‘Journey’ Dating Her Daughter Kate Hudson

Goldie Hawn talks to Kate Hudson’s daughter’s ex-boyfriend, Dax Shepard.

The Oscar winner (78) was a guest at Shepard’s Armchair expert podcast this week, at one point Shepard, 49, talked about his “journey” with Hudson, 44.

Co-host Monica Padman said: “The irony is that we say your children are their own people, which they are, but Kate is so like you.”

“Yeah, if there’s one of your kids you’d have the hardest time not thinking it’s yours, it’s her,” Shepard joked. “And I have to tell you about my journey dating Kate.” Hawn said with a laugh, “Oh, I don’t want to hear that!”

“Well, I started walking with Kate, and then I saw Shampoo,” Shepard said of Hawn’s 1975 film. “And I was like, ‘Oh my God — I dated Goldie!’ That’s fucking weird. Are you for it Shampoo, it may be the most sparkling thing I’ve ever seen in a movie. No one could watch Shampoo and not be tragically in love with you.”

“That’s amazing to hear,” Hawn said.

Shepard added to Hudson’s Oscar nomination in the 2000s Almost famous, “I’m like, ‘Oh, there she is again! She’s time-traveled.’ It’s creepy.”

The actor recalled staying with Hudson and her family in Canada, where he “met the real” Hawn. “I said, ‘Gosh, I hope I don’t get confused.'”

“It’s so funny,” said Hawn, who added that there’s “no doubt” that she and Hudson are very similar. “It’s DNA. It’s something you can’t help.”

Today, Shepard is married to Kristen Bell, with whom he shares two daughters. Hudson, a mother of three, is engaged to fiancé Danny Fujikawa.

Shepard and Hudson dated for a few months in 2007. She was a guest on his podcast in 2019, when they fondly reflected on their relationship. She said at the time that it was “a very memorable, very wonderful, fun experience.”

Although Hudson said they considered themselves “super compatible,” they broke up because they were “in different places in our lives.”
