Dean McDermott is feeling grateful as he turns another year older.
McDermott celebrated his 57th birthday on Thursday and revealed how the day made him reflect on his sobriety.
He marked the occasion and his new year with a video on Instagram, sharing: “I’m posting to let everyone know that today is my birthday. I turned 57. And yes, I’m fishing for birthday wishes.”
He continued: “I’m having an amazing day. I’m sober. I am healthy. I feel fantastic.”

The TV personality revealed some “very wise words of wisdom” from her sister, Dale. “She said, ‘Deana, it’s just a number. Anyone can be young, but not everyone can be old.'”
“So wear your experience as a badge of honor, happy birthday to all those fellow Scorpios out there – and especially November 16,” McDermott concluded, “Bless you all. I’m having an amazing day. And I’m loving life.”

McDermott’s birthday comes as he goes through an ongoing divorce from estranged wife Tori Spelling. He first revealed they were splitting up in June in a post on Instagram that has since been deleted. It opened for the first time on Wednesday The Daily Mail about their relationship and the role he played in their downfall.
“I posted it because I was at the end,” he said Daily mail their split announcements, explaining that his substance abuse problems and their financial insecurity made him helpless. “I didn’t know what to do. I burned everything again.”
He explained how he felt “drunk and angry” after a particularly nasty row with his estranged wife, and admitted he caused Spelling a lot of “pain”.
“All Tori has done to this day is that he wanted me to be happy and healthy, and I caused a lot of damage and pain to that woman,” he told the newspaper.

Since announcing the couple’s split, McDermott has checked into a sober living home, Harmony Place, but said his financial insecurity persists.
In September, McDermott was photographed signing up for food stamps. He spoke with these photos during the interview with daily mail, saying, “I’m broke today – you’ve all seen pictures of food stamps and I’m so thankful that it exists, that people can go when they need it and get food assistance.”

He noted that Harmony Place also “showed” these changes [him] how to live,” and added, “[It] determined the true size of my life and showed me what is important.”
“It was great to go from all the glitz and glamor of a 6,500-square-foot house in the treatment to a 3,000-square-foot house with nine guys and a roommate,” McDermott said. “I’m so grateful and I’ve never been happier in my life. I’m living sober and I’m going to be 57 this month while on food stamps. But I’ve never been happier.”

McDermott also said he hasn’t seen the couple’s five children since June and hopes to be reunited with them — and Spelling — soon.
During the interview, he only had words for Spelling and expressed support for her as she moves on. At the beginning of November, Beverly Hills, 90210 The alum was seen kissing Ryan Cramer. McDermott has also moved on and is now dating Lily Calo.
The former couple has five children — daughters Stella Doreen (15), Hattie Margaret (12) and sons Liam Aaron (16), Finn Davey (11) and Beau Dean (6). The two were married on May 7, 2006, and renewed their vows on May 8, 2010.
