Dean McDermott shares some kind words about Tora Spelling’s ex.
On Wednesday, May 15, the 57-year-old actor officially opened Instagram with his girlfriend Lily Calo, and when users criticized his ex Spelling, 51, for liking the post, McDermott jumped to her defense.
When one user said Spelling’s performance was “stunning,” McDermott wrote back with praise Beverly Hills 90210 alum because of her kind nature.

“That’s because she’s a highly developed and compassionate, loving person, which is a lot more than I can say for the trolls commenting on this post,” the actor wrote. “Tori has a boyfriend. People get divorced and are better off separated [sic] together. That is life.”
“I’ll be praying for luck for all the haters,” he continued, adding a praying hand emoji.
McDermott is currently in the midst of separating from Spelling, who officially filed for divorce on March 29 after 18 years of marriage. The actor was first seen with Calo in October 2023, a few months after the former couple announced their split.

For their first official announcement as a couple, McDermott shared a photo of him and Calo posing together on the red carpet at The Magic Castle in Los Angeles, as well as a selfie in which Calo planted a kiss on his cheek.
“Sometimes you just gotta put on your best and take your girlfriend to the Magic Castle,” the actor wrote of his girlfriend, a senior account executive at health brand Conscious Community Global, adding, “Because she’s Magic!! 🎩#mylove.”
A day after McDermott’s Instagram post, Calo also shared a sweet photo of the couple, with the caption, “I have peace and I have love ♥️ #gratefulheart.”
“Love you both ❤️🙌,” Spelling wrote in the comments section of Cal’s post.

Since their divorce, both McDermott and Spelling have been open about how their new relationships fit into their lives.

In April, during an episode of her podcast spelling mistakethe actress revealed that she and McDermott — who share five children: Liam, 17, Stella, 15, Hattie, 12, Finn, 11, and Beau, 7 — still have family dinners, which Calo attends.
Elsewhere in the episode, she said the former couple are “co-parenting very well right now.”
“The kids are seeing him again and they’re happy with his progress and the work he’s done on himself,” she said. “And they are proud of him, and we like his girlfriend.”
