Deborra-lee Furness has done a little introspection over the past year.
The Australian actress, 68, opened up about what she’s learned about herself following recent changes in her life — including her high-profile divorce from Hugh Jackman in September 2023 after nearly three decades of marriage.
“[I learned] that I am strong and resilient,” Furness told PEOPLE at a special screening of the film in New York Force of Nature: Dry 2. “And yes I – we are all a constant evolution.”
Despite this, there are still some things Furness can count on to remain the same – including the support of children Oscar Maximilian, 23, and Ava Eliot, 18, who she shares with Jackman. She said the two were “thrilled” with her new film and had already seen it “several times”.

“They are very supportive of all ailments,” she said. “We all support each other in whatever artistic pursuit we pursue.”
One of the artistic occupations that he enjoys is portraying a “strong” female lead in his projects. She said that she was particularly “attracted” to act Force of Nature: Dry 2 for its “female-led ensemble cast.”
“I love playing women who are great role models for younger girls,” Furness said. “Women are excellent leaders or women can be. So I like playing women who have something to say.”

2023 was a year of great change for Blessed actress who, s Wolverine star, announced they were ending their marriage by mutual consent in a statement that read, “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We embrace this next chapter with gratitude, love and kindness.”
“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family goes through this transition in all of our lives,” they added.

Since announcing their split, it has been revealed that they are still in each other’s lives. Furness and Jackman celebrated his 55th birthday with family and friends at Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar in New York, a month after announcing plans to end their marriage.
Since then, the couple has been spotted on their solo outings around New York. Jackman has been seen in recent months walking around the city with friends Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.
Force of Nature: Dry 2 opens in US theaters on Friday, May 10.
