Deion Sanders Defends Ranking His Children: ‘I’m the Only One That’s Honest’

Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders keeps changing the order for his five kids — and he insists he’s not the only parent who does.

Sanders (56) first revealed the public ranking of his children on Instagram, and son Deion Jr. (29) was in first place in December 2022.

After Deion’s Buffaloes pulled out a victory in Saturday’s game against Colorado State behind two steals from son Shilo Sanders, 23, the head coach and father of five said he might have an updated order.

Deion spoke to the media after Saturday’s win, where a reporter asked, “Shilo got two turnovers today, I wonder if that moved him up the kid rankings?”, as seen in video on X, formerly Twitter, shares Fox College Football.

“He’s improving,” Deion said of Shiloh’s order. “He thrives like the Jeffersons, but [son] Shedeur is also honest,” he added.

Additionally, Deion said his daughter Shelomi, also known as “Bossy,” may have also moved up in the rankings after Saturday. “Bossy came in and gave me the biggest hug and kiss and thank you for my dad that she could ever give me at the end of the game, so that was great.”

Deion further praised his oldest son, Deion Jr, who the head coach said does “fascinating” work on social media with his streetwear brand Well Off.

“It’s hard. Ranking my kids is hard,” Sanders told reporters. “It’s a serious race right now, it really is.”

Sanders went on to claim that he is not the only parent who ranks his children. “I’m the only one who is honest in ranking my children. You act as if you love them all the same, and you don’t,” he said and added: “I don’t know why you all act like that.”

The former NFL star has two children with his first wife Carolyn Chambers: daughter Deiondra (31) and son Deion Jr. (29). He also had three children with his second wife Pilar Biggers-Sanders: sons Shilo, 23, and Shedeur, 21, and daughter Shelomi, 19.

In January, Deion told PEOPLE that his family is built on unity. “We believe in strength, and strength is in unity, so family makes us stronger,” Deion said. “And we don’t just talk, we live it.”

“We all work together and we all get involved in each other’s lives,” he added. “So everything is centered around sports and everything happens around that.”

The Colorado Buffaloes have become one of the biggest stories in sports this season as Deion’s team is 3-0 so far this season, which greatly surpasses the number. 22 ranking they held in the season.

The team’s third win came after Saturday’s double-overtime thriller against rival Colorado State.

The Buffaloes won despite losing star cornerback Travis Hunter, who was taken to the hospital after being hit by Henry Blackburn, who submitted personal fault for a terrible crash.

According to CBS Sports analyst Carl Reed Jr., Deion said Hunter, 20, will be out for “three weeks” following the injury.
