Delhi jails get devices to detect hidden mobile phones
Ten non-linear joint detectors have been purchased by Delhi jails to search for metal and hidden mobile phones in jails. The equipment can find things buried up to two meters in concrete or soil. Sanjay Baniwal, Director General of Delhi Prisons, confirmed the development and announced the purchase of 10 mobile phones and metal detectors. “In order to improve the efficiency of our correctional staff, we provide them with state-of-the-art technology. With the help of the detector, they were able to recover the phones that the prisoners had hidden in the prisons. The tool will be useful in identifying metal objects, according to Baniwal. According to a senior prison official, these detectors can even find objects buried up to two meters below the surface of the ground or concrete.
“In 2021, we ordered two nonlinear connection detectors that we tested. The conclusion was pleasant, therefore the department made a decision to order more devices from the American company. According to the official, the equipment can detect metals, SIM cards and mobile phones through concrete that can be buried up to two meters. The department spent $1.5 million on 10 devices, each costing Rs 15 lakh. The combined capacity of the three jails in Delhi Tihar, Mandola and Rohini is 10,026 inmates.
