Demi Lovato and Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes Are Engaged! Inside the ‘Personal and Intimate’ Proposal (Exclusive)

Wedding bells are about to ring for Demi Lovato and Jordan ‘Jutes’ Lutes!

The couple — who went public with their romance in August 2022 — got engaged on Saturday in Los Angeles, the singer’s rep confirmed exclusively to PEOPLE.

Lutes, a 32-year-old songwriter who first met Lovato in January 2022 when they co-wrote her song “Substance,” popped the question with a pear-shaped diamond engagement ring made by New York luxury jewelry boutique Material Good.

After a “personal and intimate proposal,” Lutes and Lovato (who uses the pronouns she/they) headed to Craig’s, one of their favorite restaurants in LA, to celebrate with their families.

On Lovato’s 31st birthday in August, Lutes shared a carousel of cute selfies and silly videos paying tribute to his now-fiancee.

“happy birthday to my best friend. You are clearly the most beautiful and talented person to ever do this,” he captioned the post. “but more importantly, you’re weird and you make me cry with laughter.”

“I’m definitely in a really good place,” Lovato said CBS Morning earlier this year while promoting their new music. “I don’t know what I’m going to write about on my next album because I’m so happy. It feels really good… definitely a bunch of dark love songs – for sure.”

“First we became friends. We were friends for a few months and then we decided to start dating and well, after we told each other how we felt,” Lovato said.

“I’ve been waiting my whole life to find you and I can’t wait to celebrate so many more birthdays together… you’re literally a dream come true and I’m so grateful to be able to call you mine,” she wrote on Instagram.
